Hi, there! Almost 3800 posts! Excellent!
I still dont think CA sold out - I think that it's something else.
- And it's interesting that Omnisphere 2 should be announced almost simultaneously with CA's sudden demise - related?
Quick aside: IMHO there are some really brave & great people that inhabit KVR!

I also wouldnt be the least bit surprised to learn that Eric and Co consulted with CA when they were working on Om2's granular engine - Alchemy does it all in a pretty efficient manner, which is likely a core spec for Om2's Steam engine - with all of Om2's goings on, I'd almost expect it to choke the sh!t out of just about any machine that it ran on...

...and even though Spec denies buying the Camel, that doesn't necessarily mean that there couldn't be NDA's in force all around - Eric got the tech from somewhere - CA's stuff is at least as good as anyone else's...

dont think its realted with omnisphere 2, i mean it was time for Spectrasonics to bring something, i mean when sales are dropping you need to bring something new to keep your company up?

That`s the problem
Lol. No problem. Really. I actually wish to get corrected by native speakers because I would love to improve my english but no one does although I constantly ask for!!! I had so many email contacts to american and english people and I asked all the time for correction, but all they said was: "Your english is great". I know that my english is not the worst but I have to consider so often about grammar and how to type something and so on, I`m really pleased about some help and so: Thanks, you can go on with thatsjm wrote: Anyway, I just wanted to give you a quick pointer - because I've noticed you have the same tendency as many German speakers to confuse the words "live" and "life" in English.
Life (pronounced as you would "leif" in German) is the noun, i.e. das Leben. This would be the correct choice for real-life (im/aus dem echten Leben).
Live (pronounced "lɪv", where ɪ is the schwa sound you find everywhere in English) is the verb, ie zu leben. I live in a car, I have lived on the moon for three years etc.
Live (pronounced as you would "leiw" in German) is an adjective exclusively used for broadcasts and events etc., and has the same meaning in German, i.e. live on air, live at the XYZ Arena etc. Remember that this is not pronounced "leif" - V and F have entirely different pronunciations in English, unlike in German where they commonly both get pronounced as an F. This is presumably the source of confusion to German speakers, who tend to treat them as homonyms (which they aren't), and then mix up the various meanings of the three words as a result!
Your English is very good, so this is not meant to be critical, just hoping that I can maybe contribute something useful for you...
Pm sounds good, they all cry for the camel topic alreadylnikj wrote:Thanks for your kind words. I'm OK, really.Mojo42 wrote:You explained it very well, but fortunately I got over it. I left the depressions behind me, when I finally accepted my destiny. You said that you have less depressions since you changed your life. I also had to change my live for being happy. For those who are not autists this probably sounds very hard and depressing but in fact the solution of all my problems was: Simply staying alone…lnikj wrote: @Mojo42 - It all depends on how you look at it. I am an Aspie...
I am high functioning, I have a Ph.D, but I am not a savant. I had a career and a wife, but I lost all that due to my depression, not from being an Aspie as such.
That was 8 years ago though and I'm pretty good now.
I have now done pretty much the same as you. I live with a very understanding partner and a little dog. I scratch a living working from home. I now have basically no social contact apart from my partner, and my very elderly parents whom I see about once a month. About twice a year one or other of my two close old friends comes to stay. I too go shopping late at night!
As you noted in your post, many people looking in would think I have a very sad life, but I am fine with it. It just took me a long time to find it. Glad you are doing good and you did right to correct some misconceptions here.
I just wanted to complete this little exchange; we should PM if we need to after this I think.
Back to the serious stuff then: WTF? Camel? What happened?
@Jace-BeOS:
Wow sh*t!!!! That was the way I was talking just a couple of months ago. You have got a dark phase my friend. This happens if you constantly experiance some sh*t, if you constantly experiance refusal and if you constantly get punished for being just honesty. I know all of this, very well. I actually don`t know what to say apart from: Give us a chance
This place here seems to be not so bad. At each other forum I would lay down in pieces already, especially after starting a autism off topic
I think you are right with all what you`ve said. I also met autists I absolutely couldn`t communicate with. At least not more than about their special interests only. They ignored constantly each social signal and even when I threw them the hammer right into their face they didn`t react. That`s the hard cases. But I also met some I could really great talk with and felt myself really well understood. Get over your bitterness and give the world a chance again. We have to make compromises and we have to make efforts and we have to accept that not all is as perfect as we wish it to be. Try to find peace in accepting imperfection.

Agreed about Spec needing to bring something - The way I see companies like CA and Spectrasonics is that the programming side can be microscopically small - 1,2,3 guys - Izotope, as an example, was basically (for a while, anyway) one guy with a doctorate in DSP programming...everything else with Izo was primarily support.Ameyah Audio wrote:have 6000 presets here.

So: Eric wants to put a sweet granular engine in Om2 - who would you want to talk to? Mr. Camel, I presume, for one!

Nah...while AlchemCamel's granular engine is good, by no means the best - and from the demo video the omnifear granular is pretty entry-level these days. If we knew that O2 had crazy good resynthesis algos then maybe it came from an imported Camel. As other devs have said - if they bought out Camel, they'd be shouting it proudly: Now With Extra Camelization!goldenanalog wrote:Agreed about Spec needing to bring something - The way I see companies like CA and Spectrasonics is that the programming side can be microscopically small - 1,2,3 guys - Izotope, as an example, was basically (for a while, anyway) one guy with a doctorate in DSP programming...everything else with Izo was primarily support.Ameyah Audio wrote:have 6000 presets here.

It's a lovely theory, but I ain't buying.
The silent MO screams Apple. As do the other 'hints'...it's the worst case scenario, Camel bought out by a smartphone company, but best to prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

Yeah they don't make Final Cut, Logic, laptops, desktops, iPads (their best selling item ever), or run a online music store etc. etc.mandolarian wrote: The silent MO screams Apple. It IMO wouldn't be the worst case scenario by a long shot. Worst case would be the developers were bought out for non-audio related programming skills. Redmatica was bought out, and all of us including me expected to see Autosampler, Pro Manager, and Keymap Pro wrapped into Logic, but so far Autosampler was wrapped into the $29 MainStage. For an owner of Autosampler who doesn't use Logic, this was really great news. $29 is cheaper than the upgrade to Autosampler 2 was.
Go ahead and don't like Apple, that's not unusual or anything to get up in arms about, but it's most likely if Apple bought them that Alchemy ends up in Logic and MainStage. At least for mac users it's not the end of the world.
Also Ben H pretty much implied in this thread that they did not get bought by Apple, so it's all good.

So..."Pretty much implied" is the next best thing to the next best thing to the next best thing to being stated as fact? That's only 3 degrees away. Must be true.machinesworking wrote: Also Ben H pretty much implied in this thread that they did not get bought by

iPad hasn't been their cash cow for a long time...It's all about the phones.machinesworking wrote: Yeah they don't make Final Cut, Logic, laptops, desktops, iPads (their best selling item ever), or run a online music store etc. etc.

What the heck - I'm going to play the devil's advocate for a while longer!
Three questions:
1.) If CA was getting income via consulting fees and/or(?) - w/possible associated NDA's - could/would that income be hidden under the category of software sales?
2.) Is it possible that one of the CA programmers could have elected not to renew his contract? - If he was deep into Alc2's development, that could potentially nuke it, correct?
3.) Is it possible that CA could have hurt the perceived value of Alc by porting it to IOS? They had one simple version in the Appstore that was literally free!
