Apple bought them to integrate into GarageBand as Alchemy 2 - and who knows? It could be sold by them as a separate ios synth - if you haven't already, please take a look at what's going on with the ipad, with Alchemy being one of the Crown Jewels on the iOS platform - FLstudio, Cubasis, Korg and their Gadget with audio track integration next, 48-track Auria with plugin support, etc.

Apple may be getting ready to do more with GarageBand - simple as that. They're super rich, so the expansion with Alchemy would make sense.

Quickly: when lawyers get involved: everyone has to shut the hell up - no choice.

the ipad market has bombed, and i think logic is the most 'logical' direction for them to shove alchemy (or its coders)

A good journalist might find out why the woman is crying and what crushed the house........

Ta.
No, I have no professional involvement with camel audio any more, I'm just still friends with them. Their business is their business, not mine, just as I can't tell friends about many details of my job... so no I don't know anything more. They are still alive and still the same nice guys though.

It's fairly clear that some change has occurred that they can't talk about, and it is clearly not in their normal modus operandi. Whatever it is, I'm sure it is for good reason, they've always forged their own unique path and as is probably apparent from the charity donations and general approach to things, definitely aren't all about the money, money, money... there will be other reasons behind it... and 8 figure sum for a VST developer? Surely pie in the sky!

That's the part that's been bothering me......What patented technology does CA own that whoever bought them out (if that is indeed what happened) needed so badly ?

Omnisphere just got Granulizer features so unless they got them from CA that technology must not be too hard to implement.

What is it that CA had that was worth buying out and couldn't just be stolen errr I mean borrowed by a Mega Corp or whoever....what kind of coding skills do Ben and the others have that can't be found by simply hiring someone instead of buying the whole damn company ?

Ehhh who knows..........

Could they have decamped to a monstary, taken refuge in the church of latter day saints or just decided to follow scientology?

At Gold Base it aint easy to talk to outsiders, that could be the reason for their silence most def probably.

Ok here's the conspiracy theory.....(must have been brought up before somewhere in 280 pages).....

Apple is going to buy out the developers of all the most popular audio software and force them to create Mac only versions which they hope will then force everybody to buy shiny new Macs just to have the best audio software.........

No ? Yea you're right that is pretty silly........... :clown:

I wasn't aware that the ipad market had bombed - looks pretty healthy to me - but regardless: Apple could potentially put a version of Alchemy in both GarageBand versions as well as logic! Or: why not?

As far as just stealing Alc's stuff:

Apple is super rich - it probably would be easier for them just to buy CA ip/employees and have them work in addition with both GB and Logic - that might go a ways to continuing relavence of both products, from their point of view.

Pure conjecture, but makes sense.
