Thanks Steve, but this is where I always fall off the wagon :(

I can't seem to "end" it. If I do, then I always feel like I just "ended" it and didn't put as much time into it as I did when I started the thing. Very frustrating.

Maybe I need to start writing the ending first  My friend (God rest his soul) used to always order his dessert first because he wanted to have the best part of the meal before he got full....maybe I should take his advice :D

Thanks again.
you can always do what i tend to do and drop stuff out slowly until your left with one light beat and a bit of melody, twidle with that for a few bars then make the first beat of the very last bar a crash and a (low volume) kick drum.

a bit of a cop out i know but i find it works better than just fading (which is what i used to do)

good tune though, i do look forward to hearing the finished article.

cheers for sharing,

steve.

Howdy neighbor!

First of all my condolences on your AC being out, I'm down in Houston and I can't imagine the AC being out. Actually I can, so

On to the tune, I've listened a couple of times and I really like what you did with the clav patch. Also the endings not so bad, the strings/pad swelled to a crescendo and the song ended. I just wasn't ready for it to end. The drums weren't bad sounding. Maybe they could use a little more variation. I thought it was really good! :D

Great idea! :o Didn't think of that. I nice section with little percussion to put the strings in front might just work. I'll give that a shot. Then I'll go back into a reprise or something a bit different yet. Thanks!
rsmus7 wrote: About your sound layering for drums, your quite right it is much work but great.
I have the problem more in the rythmic department.
For me it is really hard to programm a good beat, and the breaks, still gotta lear a lot about that.

What I've been working on is loading up a loop and then trying to copy it with redrum (or now impulse in Live4). It helps me then to look at the piano roll after I'm done to "see" what the loop looks like after its sequenced.

Thank you, its fixed now. Man, we thought we were gonna die, but then I realized...people used to do this all the time and, unfortunately, people STILL do it, so I figured we'd better just suck it up for a few days.

Instead...we whined alot

Yeah, the tune is definitely not done yet. I've just come to a creative stand still and can't figure out where to go next. :x

Drums are the last thing I work on because I have the most trouble with them. I'm probably gonna have my writing buddy help me out because he's a great drum programmer!

Thanks for the review!

this tune is pretty kick ass. brilliantly done with the clav running all that distortion. the song has a lot of energy and a full sound. keep it up and can't wait to here more.

great first post, drez!

first let me say that I was hoping to hear "dress me when you're done" -- that would be great for a song title and lyric -- could be romantic in a way

"noAC" really just wants to be an all night jam, doesn't it?

I like the wooden (?) percussion that contrasts with the gritter sounds -- lots of nice variations as well

if you're looking for ideas, maybe have a lead guitar or monophonic piano drop in for a few bars to walk around some of the implied melodies

re: no AC -- glad it got fixed! I know what that's like

Post

Looks like I need to sit down with my MIDI controller, a couple of lead sounds and loop it for awhile to come up with a lead, eh? :D

Got it.

wow, this is cool & energetic!

when listening to your song i am seeing a big city at first from a far (sort of helicopter view) then flying over the city and zooming in unto what is proably 2 people on the big streets filled, but not crowded with people. The camera zooms in on them from the side on a ground level and moves towards the figures running, switching shots between the face & the overview. the two get seperated and the camera follows the one in the lead. at one point he goes around the corner and so does the camera but a wider angle then the person did. zooming out from his heavy breathing face towards 3/4 of his body while he once looks anxiously around the corner. then the 2nd person comes around the corner and hits the one waiting there on his shoulder almost toppeling him over and they run on. they start to cross the very wide road where cars are driving almost getting hit by one but most are avoided with skill like it's an everyday practise. turning around one corner more and one crossing the road we see them dissappear inside a grey building from a steep helicopter view.

I listened to your songs 6 times in a row there is something very addictive in it for me! Did you mixup your sounds with some drug? it does release a bit of adrenaline in me i guess. which is sort of weird cause your song isn't all that harsh but it is driving in a way!

For a first time it is very nicely done! Small annoying thing is the mp3 starts with a tiny clip of audio which i guess should have been silence and the ending is not good now. It should either end without a fade or it should have a longer fade / ech-ish sound than it does now. Real nice sounds in there and everything sounds alive and transparent.

cool! keep up the good work & i look forward to hearing more from you.

ps. no i am not under the influence of anykind of psychotropic substance. 8)

Very well described! Made it very easy to visualize. I definitely was going for a driving vibe. I usually don't come up with very good percussion elements (meaning, they sound choices usually don't fit quite right) but I think this one works well. The snare keeps that tempo riding and it definitely feels like music to a scene where there's some tension in it.

What's funny is it started out nowhere near this state, but it definitely evolved in that direction.

Yeah, I'm still working on the ending...it will definitely extend into something, just not sure what. Your scene description is very inspiring and I cut and pasted it unto a note so I can read it when I'm working on it. Thanks for the inspiration!

When its done, I'll make sure I get it to you....I want to see how the story ends! :D
