Maybe they have matched the EQ curves and put it in a nice GUI, and that's it. And then use C1 algos for the dynamics underneath.

Try IK or duende, the Glue, or the NI. Or free stuff.
Now that I purchased the SSL4000 from Waves (which I like very much) I have to ask: Do you have experience about mixing with SSL console, because you are saying that the bus compressor sounds nothing like an ssl bus compressor?

Duende are C200 algorithms, from 15 or so years ago (what year was c200 released anybody know?)

C200 is a broadcast desk, used for tv/commercial/media production

I've compared Waves ssl eq to alexb classic logic eq (for Nebula) recently (highpass filters specifically) and the only difference i could tell in my short test was that alexb was slightly smoother and more alive. A bit of a surprise really.

The console you used was SL4000?
*at all* is quite a strong statement. I´ve read that many find Waves version really close to the real hw and it nulled -35dB against the production reference console from SSL, being better than between two real consoles. (probably gate wasn´t included with the tests) :)

If you drive the Waves SSL channels hard, they'll introduce some sort of buzz into the signal, I'm guessing it's too much simulated saturation. It's quiet, but it's there... I can't see any "real" SSL console doing this. Was really tempted during the recent Christmas sale, but then I used the demos for a while and compared them to the Dunde.

Stop screaming, I know that the Waves plugins are 4000 series clones and the Duende are not.

I'll be honest with you: I don't care. What matters to me is that a plugin is usable. The Waves SSL channel dynamics are buzzers, the Duende channel dynamics aren't. What's more, I could never get the Waves Bus Comp to do anything other than pump like hell at any setting. Put the Duende Bus Comp on a drum bus, turn the Attack up and the Threshold down ... and the snare's right where it belongs, in your face.

The C200 algorithms were modeled after the XL9000K SuperAnalogue console, which was released in 2002.
The C series consoles were introduced in 2003.

I think I have less than $15 in each on average, if you weigh in the freebies, and haven't paid over $40 or so for any of even the couple highest priced ones.

This gets me up into the range where an eventual $240 (less discount) capped WUP won't sting as much.

That said, while they were once members of the royal family, even their newer stuff is not "all that," especially when you look at the options.

Most are still quite usable, though... and in a very few cases unique and indispensable (for me, anyway).

Honestly, some of the older ones I have mostly for nostalgia's sake.

as far as eq curves, sure, waves used q clone to get the curves from a particular 4000 console. woop de doo, they null to 35db (ddmf neve eq nulls to -60db to the steinberg one and i can still hear a small difference).

is null to 35 db even considered good? and what's the biggie about that when they have the curves right.. so do propellerhead! it's not that hard to do LOL! They null to -35db though obviously because of the curves. the rest of the non nulling is *obviously* all the analog magic they didn't bother to even try to model.
overpriced plugins with nice gui's, i am sticking to that.
I'm with chokehold here. If you like Duende (or whatever else) version, use it. If I like Waves SSL (and I actually do), please let me use it and decide if it is overpriced for me or not. I really don't care if it mimics real hardware to null to -X of -Z dB, because I like the workflow and the result.
