That's true. But it's not perfect either.

U-he has a better patch management system.
That would be the reason for only exposing one program to the host right there. If your program bank doesn't map to a simple linear array (say, if it's in a tree structure) then it would make sense to do that. But for a simple system with a fixed number of programs like PG-8X has, they really should be exposed and accessible to the host.

Hi Martin,

You have a problem in your voice handler, and it seems to be a bitch to track down.

To see what i mean, get the attached archive and listen to the audio. It pretty much speaks for itself; under certain conditions some of the voices either wont play (remain silent) or they will only generate a popping kind of noise. The latter can be heard best towards the end of the clip after 00:54. The exact cause (when/why) is elusive, but the problem is repeatable with a high degree of regularity. This was with the Win32 version.

I have also put the preset in the archive so you can test with the same settings that were used for the audio clip. If you keep doing something similar to what i did in the clip you should sooner or later experience the problem.

(I know, the audio sounds crap, it was made using the computer keyboard only to provoke and demonstrate the effect.)

Thanks for the report and the files. Could you, please, let me know which host you are using? I have never experienced that behaviour myself.

Has anybody else had the same problem?

Thanks,
Martin

Well, ive tried it in 4.

VSTHost: Problem occured

SAVIHost: Problem occured

REAPER: Problem occured

energyXT: Problem did not occur, but maybe i just havent tried long enough.

(It always needs a bit of messing around (like playing a lot of random chords) until the problem starts to manifest. Thats why i said its a bitch to track down, because while it is generally well reproducible you never know exactly when it actually starts to happen. So far i was not able to make out any kind of pattern, except that it only seems to be happening if youve played some random chords first.)

All i can say at the moment.

Will do more testing when i have time and let you know if i find anything worth reporting.

Is my memory playing up again, or did this use to have more than 6 voices?
None of the really dumb people I knew when I was young are young any more.

You can choose the number of voices (6,8,10 or 12) in the MIDI panel (yes, I know, the name is still misleading... suggestions are welcome)

OK. I will test it tonight. Just out of curiosity, did you try different MIDI keyboards?

Cheers,
Martin

Ooops ... I was looking for it in the wrong place ('settings') ...

(Not that I would have minded too much if it was just 6 voices - this would be staying in my Top 5 even if you made it mono!)

Yes, I need to change those panels and their names...

Hard to believe it's been evolving four years! Thanks Martin_I for your continued efforts and generosity in sharing your work.

Martin
Suggestions: "MAX VOICE", "VOICE COUNT", or simply "VOICES" is fine

Post

Or simply "POLYPHONY".

Thanks, what I had in mind were names for the whole panels.

Currently, "SETTINGS" contains Chorus parameters, Filter noise, LFO parameters and tuning. "MIDI" contains the MIDI channel, number of voices, and Sysex and PresetSaving options.

I guess it is mainly the "MIDI" name which should be changed, as the panel does contain other settings besides MIDI related settings as well. These are more things, relating to the behaviour of the plugin, while "SETTINGS" relates to the sound.

Martin - most plugins would call the plugin behaviors "GLOBAL", and patch-related settings (like # of voices) "PATCH SETTINGS", "ADDITIONAL SETTINGS" or "ADVANCED". I'm looking at Rob Papen's Albino 3, Omnisphere, and PianoTeq.
