Hi all,
haven`t posted here for long time, but now i must do it because I am again so impressed by Sonic Reality stuff.
I am a proud owner of Sonic Synth 1 (+ Bonus Disc) and some of the E-ROMS (guitars, bass, strings, piano).
Well, I use these sounds almost 80-90% in all of my music. Only sometimes, when I need sth special then I use a little from other libraries, but the majority comes from Sonic reality.
O.K., what happened?
In the 08/2004 issue of the german KEYBOARDS mag, there was a comparison between the new ROLAND Fantom X, the Yamaha Motif and the new Triton extreme workstations. On the CD that comes with the magazine there were direct comparisons between many sounds (e.g. strings, solo violin, basses, brass, organs, rhodes) of the three workstations.
Guess what?
I was absolutely not impressed by most of the sounds from each of the three super-worksations. To me, many of their sounds are on par or even really inferior in quality than comparable sounds from my Sonic reality collection. and its not only a matter of pure sample size, its also a matter of programming.
I dont now whether the guys from sonic reality are kinda wizards, but compare the little solo violin patch from the strings e-rom with the solo violins taken from fantom, motif and triton. Despite its only ca. 1 MB in size the SR violin patch beats the worksation`s violins greatly!
These so far my two cents and I have to say that I am really glad that I have not spent 2.500 $ or more for the big workstations and that i have most of the sounds i need in equal or better quality from a collection that for a much lesser price.
I can not await the coming of STUDIOPHONIK!!!!! I am sure that this monstrum will beat the hell out from every workstation and leave them all in the dust!!!.
Best regards
David

Yeah it's hard to justify paying 2,500 on a keyboard if you have a computer and a sequencer that supports the plug-ins made my sonic reality and ikmultimeda like sampletank and sonik synth

Sonik Synth 2 is even more too. But, to be honest there are some things that each of those keyboards do better than the other. It all depends on your sound needs though. For certain things Sonik Synth 2 will just be the ideal choice, for other things it could be a lower priced replacement for hardware. There are aspects of each of those keyboards that I appreciate greatly. Maybe not the violins!
But other sound capabilities. Size does come into play sometimes though too. 5 gigs+ vs. 100 megs is a big difference.
The price comparison is probably the most key. The bottom line here is that if you are able to make oer 50% of your music with the IK and SR stuff then that says a lot right there. Maybe you don't need every feature under the sun but the playable sounds and fx that come with SampleTank and SR do the trick for a lot less money.
Studiophonik, on the other hand, is like no other workstation ever before. It is closer to sounding like a real band than any combo workhorse product. Of course, it doesn't have pads and orchestras etc. But for guitar, bass, drums, percussion, pianos, organs and horns with 5+gigs dedicated ONLY to that... well, its going to be pretty cool! Unique. In fact, I was just playing it and I was bummed that I had to stop to get ready for dinner. That's the sign of a good product don't you think?
Thanks. Its my birthday this week and this gave me a smile.

Yeah, if you are doing computer recording, soft synth/samplers are a no-brainer, IMHO.

that's interesting but you know I still Compare my Roland XP-80 Keyboard workstation to Sampletank2 and Sonic Synth all the time, I still think the Roland 64 voice piano is a better piano, I am always using both Sampletank2,XP-80, and akai, and giga together. So for me Sampletank2 and Sonic Synth is another great collection of usable sounds(great efx), it's nice to have a whole other workstation to work with. (they all have there strong points) Look forward to the World Capsules and what you do with them.
and I suggest going somewhere to test out the Roland Fantom X...
