it doesn't necessarily matter that there's a difference, only how that difference affects the desired result, and where the resulting sound is destined to end up. in the same way as many mp3-vs-wav blindtests (which so many people fail), this kind of thing is going to be source-dependent. it is unlikely to be the case that ALL granular experiments with compressed audio will result in a garbled, aliased mess. i doubt the developer of 'the mangle' would include mp3 functionality to appease us laptop/ipod-toting kiddies (albeit 42-year-old, laptop/ipod-toting kiddies) if the results consistently ended up unusableSampleconstruct wrote:Anybody should be able to hear the difference between a 320 k MP3 and 48 Khz/24 Bit wav
in the case of selling libraries, i would side with you, in offering as best quality as you can (especially at your hosting rates); it doesn't really makes sense to limit your market from the outset. however, for me, my intended market is one, and these granular experiments are likely to end up within dense mixes that likely consist of other sounds of a deliberately non-pristine nature
