producing music...guide please

hi

can anyone please guide me into how i can start producing "real" music, because i tried reason and it's not working for me. i guess its because i'm into producing trance related music, i wana produce music that has vocals in it (more like dance). many people i know have keyboards, i guess that's alot better than having reason, because i think it's easier to just play things with your hand than writing each note for everything in reason which i found very annoying to work with. Also, would i be able to make bass, beats, etc from a keyboard? is it easier than reason? if so, can you recommend me any good one please. also, should i get a new soundcard? i have audigy 2 platinum. if so, why? sorry i'm a newbie and i dont understand all this stuff, so please kindly explain if you can if you decide to reply. thanks

Looks like you're starting a new flame war there.

K. How to make music? The most important thing: Creativity. Wether you got it or not. Almost as important as this: You must be able to handle the software you use. So this means you gotta read the manual a couple of times. Afterwards I'd propose just start to make some simple drum and synth patterns. After a while start getting more complex. The rest is learning by doing. 2nd: Can't find a reason why you couldn't make trance music with reason. It's not about the host you use. 3rd: Of course you should have some sort of master keyboard to enter the notes. Makes life easier. But - for a newbie - a keyboard alone won't be enough to make a complex trance song, I guess. A built-in sequencer is not as comfortable as a software sequencer in most cases. Btw, there are so many different keyboards as there is software. What kind of keyboard are your actually talking about? Do you mean hardware synthesizers in general?

Why don't you tell us how you usually start to make a song in reason? Maybe, we can tell you ways to improve your approach to making music.

well...see if i didn't have creativty i wouldn't even bother trying in reason. i get some wack ideas in my head but when i try to accomplish them i'm never successfull. especially making the bass lines. i'm pretty familiar with subtractor now, but i still can't do somethings, like drawing the amount of pitch bend wheel in the controller lane of subtractor. i can't draw at all, so it makes this very hard for me. is it possible if i get a keyboard and be able to control the devices in reason throught the keyboard? if it is, it will really help me because i think i'll be a lot more comfortable with playing by my hands. hardware seqencer? not sure what that is but i guess its hardware model of cubase, i'm pretty good with cubase so i dont think i need that. but like many good keyboards have beats and all other stuff in them. so again i ask you will this be easier than using reason? even if it's not i think keyboard is very essential as you pointed out, so could you show me any good keyboard. i want to get a pro keyboard so i can start producing as soon as i get it. thx again

i'm pretty good with cubase so i dont think i need that. but like many good keyboards have beats and all other stuff in them.

Yamaha has a great little keyboard what has over a hundred nifty beats and tunes in it right out of the box for around 50 bucks! Some of them even have midi conections on the back side (usually same side as the on/off button) - but you need to learn up on what 'midi' is first, of course. Available at many fine retailers.

if you dont like the reason way of making music and would like a hardware synth i would recomend this synth: ROLAND JX-305 GrooveSynth

this is on of the best synth in my opinion for your kind of music. Of all the synths i have used in the past (its quite alot),it has one of the best collection of drums. The ARP can be trig. to the drumsamples to make beats (Just like the Triton). As for the other sounds: Their great!!, and the best; this synth is cheap.Try it out.
