EDIT: More drums and guitars references - I love the mix of that. The power it hits just after the strings intro. It's a great album btw :)
Excellent! There are a lot of different mixes to choose from on this album. For example, there's the dry tick-tack drums of the first song and then the wetter drums that come in around minute 21. Do you have a preference between those two mixes? I have to admit that my mix sounds more like around minute 21.

I love both tbh :)

This was really fun and I like the song a bunch. It is also very far away from anything I have done in the past. :)

Here is what I used (mostly Ableton Live devices):

Ambient mics, Kick, and snare tracks - Compressor, EQ8, Valhalla Vintage Verb

Hats track - EQ8

Tom tracks - Saturator, EQ8, Valhalla Vintage Verb

Bass tracks - NI Guitar Rig, Gate, Compressor, EQ8

Guitar tracks -
-> Used three copies of guitar C (one each left, middle, right) - NI Guitar Rig, EQ8 with automation, Simple Delay. The middle track does not have EQ8, but does use Auto Pan and NI Molecular to generate background noise.
-> Used two copies of Guitar L (one for middle) and one copy of Guitar R - NI Guitar Rig, EQ8, Auto Pan. The middle track uses Fracture (freeware, but I can't remember who makes it) to generate background noise, Compressor, EQ8, and Simple Delay.
-> Used two copies each of Shred L and Shred R - NI Guitar Rig, EQ8, and Compressor
-> Used a copy of Guitar L pitch shifted and Warped (Texture) for ambient noise in two place (after the first Mellotron bit and at the end) - Simple Delay and Auto Pan.

Mellotron track - Used two copies, Beat Repeat, EQ8, Frequency Shifter and Ping Pong Delay.

Here's my entry:

All amp emulations are the UAD Engl except one that was left clean and put through the UAD Ocean Way Studio in Re-mike mode.

There was some clipping on the clean bass so I used iZotope RX Declicker to remove it. It worked so well that I tried a Declicker after the bass compressor to get rid of the transients that were getting through and that worked great!

And just a friendly reminder - do not forget about reamping guys (I'm looking at you kovengarden)

Hi all,

This nice track was challenging for me. The first time I had to re-amp clean guitars. Till now I only used those amp for some synths, or I got ready amped guitars to mix. I tried to follow all the comments from Palu and I also listened to the sound examples. This was helpfull to get a glue how the sound should be.

Here is my mix:

WAV: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/717 ... otonic.wav

In all single drum tracks only ReaEQ
Bass Distortion – Boogex, ReaEQ and ReaComp
Bass – FA3 Full, ReaComp, AconDigital Multiply, ReaEQ, send for short guitar reverb
Guitar C – Boogex, ReaComp, ReaEQ, send for tape delay, long guitar reverb and ambient reverb
Guitar L&R – Boogex, AconDigital Multiply, send for tape delay, long guitar reverb and ambient reverb
Shred-Bus – ReaEQ, ReaComp, send for short guitar reverb
Shred L&R – Shred 1.06 from AcmeBarGig
Mellotron - AconDigital Multiply, send for long guitar reverb

Send FX:
Short and long guitar reverb – Rev250 from Sknote
Ambient reverb – Warmverb from Tone2, is coming in the end to create a huge open space.
Tape Delay – Satin in Delay mode

Stereo-Master:
MQ57 filter for final sound shaping
TDR Feedback Compressor II
U-he Satin in tape mode
The Span Analyser
TT Dynamic Range Meter

This is my first entry here, and it was very fun. I really like this music.

Here are my mix files:

WAV: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/186 ... 20jags.wav

MP3: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/186 ... 20jags.mp3

Technical Facts:

Mixed in Studio One 2.6 in OSX using 64 bits audio-processing resolution.

I used VUMT to gain staging, and S1's plugins mixed with T-Racks CS for almost everything. for saturation I used both Soft tube Saturation Knob and klanghelm IVGI.

the kick drum was tricky, at the end I duplicated the in mic and applied extreme eq, distortion and transient manipulation to the copy and mix it in.

For the reamping I used Amplitube for everything but the Shred L&R guitars. On those two I used an Axe-Fx II. Another external gear I used was an Eventide SPACE for an additional reverb bus for the Clean Guitars L&R.

I loved this part of your mix. Lush! I did a little reverb send automation on mine, too, but nearly to the extent that you did. Bravo!

We still have a bit more over 7 days. If it's like the last challenges, a lot of entries will come in the last 48 hours so that people don't copy from each other.
