:D I'm getting to the stage where i NEEEEEeeeeeeD to upgrade my G4 733mhz.. because it's painfully slow, falling over too often and needs to get a retirement asap :D

with it.. because the new G5's will not work with my DeltaRBus card.. which is the connection to my Roland digital mixer :? i'll need to get a new mixer/audio interface to do the job as well..

so lots of hard earned cash about to be spent.. all tax deductable mind though :D

i'd kinda thought about the 1.8 DP G5.. and topping up with quite a lot of ram.. a second screen and another internal HD

audio interface wise.. the Tascam FW 1884 seems to fill the shoes of the roland vm3100 very nicely.. .. added to the fact it does surround as well.. which is useful!

But... i'm open to discussion.. .. need some other opinions and would welcome some ideas..

:D

share sweeties... share :D

Why would you need the Tascams control surface and mixer in addition to the Roland?

Personally, I would go for a dedicated solution. A separate audio card that is. And regarding this I'd get an RME.

maybe i didn't make myself clear..

i have to get rid of the Roland mixer... the card that interfaces it to the computer will not work with mac OSX :( and they say they won't be upgrading nor do they have any plans too..

it's the way the cookie crumbles i expect.. even if they had an osx sticker on the bloody box  when i originally bought it.!

so... i need a new control surface as well.. to take over from the Roland ..

Ok, now I see. Still, I would go for a dedicated solution. Get some soundcard which will work fine (without any doubt the RMEs are a great choice) and a control interface (or motorized mixer) in addition.
Personally, I would even go so far to split things in three items:
- Soundcard
- Mixer to feed the card (for such things I still prefer analof devices without any fancy automation thingies)
- Control interface

Just imagine your mixer/soundcard combination won't be good enough one day... you would again have to get something completely new, whereas, when using a dedicated soundcard, you could just keep it and replace the mixer only.

Maybe one of the Yamaha digital mixers would work fine with, say, a Hammerfall, as you could even use some Adat link.
Not too sure how well it'd work when controlling Logic (or any other sequencer) though.

The Motu 828 firewire... for Mac OSX it's the best! Also a great mixer!
