I was born in 1957. Didn't really get involved in music until 1979. Until then I just enjoyed listening to it. But groups like ELP, Genesis, ELO, Kansas, Tangerine Dream, Kraftwerk and Triumvirat, just to name a few, finally pushed me into getting my first synth.

I've never been the same since.

Maybe that's a good explanation why there are so many great real COMPOSITIONS and SONGS in this OSC (not only sound gimmicks and quickly written stuff)!
The compositions are fantastic. When I first started in electronic music I actually focused way more on the composition aspect than sound design, and god knows I couldn't mix! It's been quite the journey so far, curious as to where it will continue to take me...

Oh, 1991 here.

Edit: its so beautiful out right now but here I am in front of the 'pooter awaiting results... though I think I have a rough idea of how it'll turn out...

was born 1962
played bass and a bit guitar between 1979 and 1987
would compose songs in my head from tones/colours/shapes and try to explain to the band
gave that up due to palsy affecting my left hand
dabbled with synths early 90s but can't play
then dj til 2007ish - techno+ambient
then got into software
like how it doesn't know you can't play a note
don't know theory or anything like that

lots of great musical stuff in this competition i could never aspire to
but as i can't think like that i believe i make the music in my head
and that's ok
well done everyone

Wow, cool!

A fantastic musical moment I remember was when - some time at the end of the 1980s - I played with three other guys the Genesis songs "Supper's ready" and "In the Cage" from start to finish, with all the keyboard solos by Tony Banks I had transcripted myself and learned by heart... great time!

(did I hear somebody say "results"?)

Maybe you should try using 320 kbit cbr stereo 44 kHz MP3 instead of 144 kbit vbr 22 kHz?!
You should avoid using 22k sampling frequency! If you have frequencies above 11k in your track they will sound bad (Nyquist limit). If you have to make really, really small files you should filter them first to prep for the lower bandwidth reproduction. You also need to keep an eye on overall dynamics when making low resolution files. A more dynamic file will sound better -- may not be as loud, but it won't be crunchy crap.
You should avoid using any form of lossy compression when uploading to soundcloud as soundcloud decodes it to
then encode it to it's streaming format, so your basically using an inferior source.

I'm surprised how many here started on an instrument, but I suppose it only makes sense. I played sax in middle school, refused to do marching band in high school, and gravitated toward guitar. Was really into it for awhile, but eventually electronic music took over my brain :p
Shame about your palsy, I feel if anything permanent ever happened to my hands it would be more mentally crippling than any pain could be... my condolences.
I like that you don't need to know theory in this day and age. It can be limiting in a way, though in the presence of such masterfully composed tracks, its hard to say...

(ed: top results were on point with my expectations! congrats, and once again good job all!)

I'm a little puzzled. One of my favorite tracks that I gave a 5 to does not show up in this list at all. Yet I don't see anywhere on the list where the person was DQ'd.

Does this mean that they didn't vote for all the tracks and because of that didn't show up?

Just trying to understand how some tracks can end up not on the final list.

Congratulations to all of you!

Positions 1 and 2 (Jasinski and Photonic) are so correct, these were the two tracks that opened my eyes, errrr ears, for WHAT'S POSSIBLE and really changed my perspective!

Thanks for all the great music! And thanks to the organisator(s)!

Never mind, I found it. The name inserted at the beginning threw me.

I am glad most of the people I voted higher on are up towards the top of the results, so that's good. :)

Hello OSC peeps. Im very sorry for not being able to vote in time this month, i started the voting process but i got so caught up with moving from one city to another and changing jobs that it took away from OSC time. We had so many entries that by the time I got around to listening to them the voting closed out. Plus I have no internet currently (new house) so i have to go to starbucks to listen to OSC. pain in the ass. I will continue to leave comments on this months competition, good luck to everyone. so many great entries.

My taste in music must be so much different from everybody else here. My favorite piece was close to the bottom and my least favorite piece won.

Yeah, I'm really out of touch with today's sound. LOL
