Hello,
after struggling all the times with different other crashes this weekend a question:
Has anybody got the idea tool working with different tracks and a multiout VST (Kontakt to make it simple) ?
My problem: as soon as I hit "strg + g" for a new composition idea, puff..., all the kontakt/midi channel settings gone and I have to configure the midi channel settings new EVRY time for ALL tracks, so that just dont make no sense.
So: is it just not ment for this and as an idea tool (in the actual stadium, I know that in 3 it will be improved in many ways) only useable with soundfont or do I/get I something wrong ?
Thankful for any experiences (at least after a very depressing weekend for so long with lots of RC crashes on evry workflow I tried out...)
Kind regards,
Richard

Hello Richard,
First, let me suggest you visit the Bug Reports thread for some suggestions from BlackWinny and myself on installation.
If you are having crashing problems I am confident this is due to the install and permissions. RC is extremely stable at this point.
Now, regarding the issue with the Idea Tool, I am not completely clear what is the problem.
If you click "New" then yes, of course, everthing you have done will no longer be. You should save as a "Preset" so your settings do not get lost. Then you can easily recall the preset and have the tracks output correct to your needs.
I am able to add tracks in the tool and set the track output. This remains for the track even if I add a new track. Of course then the new track needs to be set up. But it does not change output unless I change it.
You have the choice of outputs, MIDI instrument or Soundfont.

Hello Richard,
multi-timbral VST plug-ins do not work because for each new generation, the plug-in is instantiated again. Even "normal" single channel VST plug-ins can be used only if RC can set the program (if it is possible to set a plug-in preset by RC).
At the moment using VST plug-ins is not recommended in the Idea Tool.
This will be solved in v3.0.
Thanks,
Attila

Hello Attila,
o.k., good to know.
Just an additional question: I get it to work in the idea tool with "simple" Vst like Tone to Firebird but realised that RC only takes the presets from the first soundbank. When I change the soundbank in Firebird RC still has only the first Bank of Presets (simple to realize in Firebird cause first preset in first factory banks says "Welcome"...). Is that problem limited to the idea tool or is it a general limitation at the moment that RC cant react on changed soundbanks in the VST used ?
One more question to the idea tool: where are the saved presets stored ? I have made some good ones as starting point on my home pc these days and would like to copy and use them on my other pc, are they stored in a seperate file and where is it ?
Kind regards,
Richard

Dear Richard,
the idea tool presets are stored in C:\Users\(Username)\AppData\Roaming\RapidComposer\Ideas
There is a workaround though: you can save the state of a VST plug-in as an RC instrument. If you load the plug-in to a track, select a preset in the VST editor window, open the track inspector, and choose "Add Current VSTi State As New Preset" from the Preset menu.
I cannot wait when I can start working on the new idea tool which will be able to use your existing tracks without needing to set a preset, if you want.
Thanks,
Attila

This is an old issue with the VST plug-in interface. RC can set a VST preset only if the plug-in exposed its presets. In most plug-ins, preset handling is much more sophisticated than just exporting a few presets as the VST SDK allows it. This is a pain because for automatic preset selection, RapidComposer should have a way to tell the plug-in which preset to use, but if most plug-ins expose only one preset, this does not work well. So this is a limitation of the VST SDK rather than of RapidComposer, but still annoying. When I change the soundbank in Firebird RC still has only the first Bank of Presets
