I guess we need 50 pages of discussion on shades of grey...Mutant wrote:Guys... stop.
Seriously.
The original GUI is good, Martin will make few little adjustments to some control locations and it will be perfect.
With how the synth sounds, i would be happy even with REAPER default DAW UI.
It is a bit surreal to read the last 40 or so pages just about the shade of grey which is totally irrelevant here...

That's what I meant (even though it's not my place to say so).martin_l wrote:I think, we had plenty of input and suggestions already.1wob2many wrote:GUI design by committee?![]()
Good luck with that ENV1.
I would suggest that ENV1 and me just take it from here, and continue the design offline. Continuing to discuss it here will probably not lead anywhere...

i have not meant any harm at all. in no way. i know nbeat for a long time now and i love his gui. also i haven't followed the thread consistently either. but i like this gui he did. and i wanted to show my appreciation on this.
i had a jx8p as well as an jx10 + programmer. i know nbeats version doesn't look as original as yours does (which is also very good btw), but i don't give a f**k if it looks original or not. i like what i see and that's what i state here.
I had just gotten out of bed when i read your post so my interpretational skills probably werent fully online yet.
Well, I think the keyword here is "work" instead of "suggestion".brok landers wrote:sorry... i haven't realised that his work actually is based on yours...
It was just an hour's worth of ...eh ...work
I'm glad you two sorted it out.
@Brok; Hello Nico! and yes I'm alive ...and busy as usual. Not much time to spend here at KvR.
I hope you're doing well.

yeah, compare its output volume with say..... synth1. i never have a problem with synth1 overall volume.martin_l wrote:I can surely pump it up in the next release. there may be an adjustment needed with the velocity curve at the 2 setting. because when velocity dynamics is off, it is plenty loud.

The velocity curves are calibrated against the hardware. Dynamics 2 is just a linear scaling of the level (connected to a linear input of the VCA).layzer wrote:yeah, compare its output volume with say..... synth1. i never have a problem with synth1 overall volume.martin_l wrote:I can surely pump it up in the next release. I noticed that some keyboards (including the JX8P) make it very hard to actually get high velocities.
I guess you can always run it through some plugin rescaling MIDI velocities.

I remember, older v2 betas were way to loud on many factory presets (presets.sys).
Btw., Synth1 has a global volume (not patch related).
Also, is it normal (same on the hardware), that some factory presets are so different in volume?
E.g. presets.sys and PG8X beta v2 (PG8X-04-02-2015):
65 Piano1 @ velocity 127 = -13.8 dB
96 Psychmello @ velocity 127 = +1 dB
For user patches created with the hardware, it could be, because of different settings for the JX8P "Output Level Switch (H/M/L)", but on the factory presets?
Edit: Examples are single notes on C4.

Output level switch is a hardware switch, it's not stored into the presets on the original hardware synth.

Yes, I have take down the overall level in some recent version, because I had too much clipping.RexXx wrote: I remember, older v2 betas were way to loud on many factory presets (presets.sys).
I am planning to increase it again, and implement a global output level in the GLOBAL section.
These patches are imported directly from the hardware through sysex. I will check the difference in levels on the hardware to check whether I have wrongly calibrated something. Also, is it normal (same on the hardware), that some factory presets are so different in volume?

martin_l wrote:You should save and load banks or presets in the internal formats using the WRITE and SAVE buttons. The host will only be able to save the current patch, but not the whole bank.ENV1 wrote: - Preset Handler: If i use the hosts preset manager to save a preset as .fxp, and later re-import that .fxp, the presets actual name is shown neither in the hosts preset manager nor in the plugins own alphanumeric display. Both of them simply continue to show 'INIT'. When i use the hosts preset manager to name or re-name a preset, the hosts preset manager updates its own display upon pressing Enter, but the synths own display still continues to show 'INIT'.
OK, I had a closer look, as I was under the impression that FXP saving/loading should work (as opposed to FXB's). And, in fact, I found a bug which prevented the name display from being updated. This will be fixed in the next version.
Nevertheless, I would recommend using the plugin's internal preset handling.
Cheers,
Martin

Sorry if I missed this or if it's basic but how do I get the patches into the synth?
I have the Kujashi Banks downloaded
The Synth sounds great by the way I remember when I really wanted one when they were new
Thanks!
