perhaps one reason why a lot of people had trouble with programming the DX7 was that, unlike analogue synths the sound elements where represented as numerical values and musicians who program synthesizers are more accustomed to creating sounds by relying on immediate feedback following a tweak here and there. you could not do that with the DX7. not to mention that the poor soul had to take into acount that in a mod; carrier arrangement the modulator did not ordinarily produce sounds independent of the carrier.

The programming logic for FM synthes is is hugely different in comparison to Analogue.

The general advice is to spend a couple of hours understanding the logic of Fm before delving into anything more complex than 2 op( simple FM ) programming.
Music is the language of the soul.

The best music comes from the heart of the performer or composer.

Back in the day I used an Atari ST program called DX Droid ( later DX Android because George Lucas owned the rights to "Droid") to program my DX7/TX7. Made life a whole lot easier. It also included a Patch/Bank librarian. I lost a lot of patches that I created and collected when I sold my Atari. I was in the process of shipping the program and data disks to Tim Conrardy who still had an Atari/DX7 setup right before he passed away.............

I use two fm8 in Maschine ,so you can emulate the DX1 presets!

Sometimes it sounds like a D-50 (Fantasia) is possible.

Dexed works with patchwork in Logic Pro X.Also you can program the multi patches

of the DX1 and with the pg8x the Super Jx sounds :tu:

Hey guys is this the BlackWinny bank? Did I do it right?

Now all you have to do is layer up 8 instances of Dexed to emulate the TX816.... :hihi:

Dexed as well as the original DX line really benefits from some external effects like chorus, reverb and delay. I used to hook mine to an SPX-90........hmmm I wouldn't mind a VST version of that just for nostalgia's sake...... :P

Maybe unzip the file, add your folder and then zip it up again ?

One of the improvements scheduled for the next (eagerly awaited) version is the cart manager, which would make tasks like this a lot easier than they currently are.

I'm very pleased with Dexed 0.8 VST running inside Ableton Live 64 on my Windows box, but no luck on the Mac (also Live 64Bit) - is there anything I'm missing? 0.7 seems to be working ok.

Thanks Legrand
Hey, do you use osx 10.6.8? Doesn't work there it seems, only v 0.7.
V 0.8 does not seem to work on OSX 10.7.5. either. At least reaper does not recognise it. V 0.7 works fine.

Cheers,

I also got that latest version Dexed and it sesm to work properly.

Besides that i had unzipped the file and found it includes around 3800 Sysex files, each with up to 32 patches (while some have only a few patches inside).

I am currently importing those Sysex files into NI FM8 (the import creates single files for each patch). Already finished 1000 of the SYX files. If i calcuate how many patches the imported files include and how many are remaining there must be around 80000 (!!) single patches in those banks. Many of those Sysex files seemed to be broken, at least when trying to import them in FM8.

Sorting those for eliminating duplicates wil be the next problem. If i copy al patches in one folder it is obvious that there are tons of dublicates.

Simpy overwriting patches with similar patch names does not work as patches with similar names could be actually different. Also checked using some free programs that could find duplicates but those do not seem to work with either the FM8 files. Also sorting by the exact file s size (compressed size) in bytes does not really help as even similar patches could have a difference of up to 10 bytes while on the other hand patches that are actually different could have a smaller differences than that (while ther could be also bug differences).

A simple solution would be either finding a software that succesfuly deletes duplicates or find a patch format that could be sorted by the software i already checked. That format must be easily be imported then so there are not too many options.

Yes, it's that.
:D

Just a remind... I'm of course not the author of these patches.

Yes, it is this one. Remember this post I did at 5 January:
http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... 6#p5996126

For the moment it is still the last in date. I quietly working on some (very small, insignificant) corrections to remove some bad patches having issues. But globally this 1.0 from the 5 January is perfect (for the moment).
