I was thinking of using a template of a flashwebsite to sell albums, mp3 singles, and presets via paypal but am unsure if its a good idea to go with this platform. Sure its an awesome flashy site but would it load on all computer platforms. Is it mostly dated like 10 years ago and nobody is using it because of the user unfriendliness? What are your thoughts and opinions. Would something in HTML 5 or CSS 3 be a much better options.
Here is a site that you can preview the template.

It's a bad idea indeed. Flash is not supported on iOS and modern versions of Android at all, and it's just a tip of the iceberg of the problems with flash.

Well it won't work on iPods, iPads, iPhones, Android phones, Android tablets, Kindles, Nooks, and some versions of Linux.
HTML 5 is the future.

That's good to know guys. The site in question is almost entirely flash .swf and flv files.
I released a website a few years back in html using dreamweaver so I'm familiar atleast with the process. Will look more into html 5 and what it can do, hopefully it can do some similar stuff with flash using videos and whatnot. I would also like to hear from people who have already or in the process of releasing there's and hearing there opinion and what platform they used.

agreed. flash is dead.
only id add that to say "it wont work" on android devices is inaccurate. flash works just fine on android devices, i can go to flash sites on my note4 and tablet without any problems.

My last site had an option for flash entry or no flash entry. That could be a solution but I'm 99 percent leaning towards html 5 or css. I can't program from scratch at all so I'b simply be modifying a template with dreamweaver. With flash there is little to be done modifying the site except changes menus and playlist items etc via .xml files. Hopefully html 5 will let me modify the template as much as I want, and be easy too!

Here is the site template in question using flash. I still need to build my website, does anyone have something decent I can find on the web using html5 or css. Is there a way to convert a flash site into html or convert the .flv files into interactive video files that html can use?

Could I use this to convert the above template for use in html5?

Btw, i only once created a very simple website for a relative, nothing at all fancy, but how difficult would it be to implement a MP3 player in your website using only HTML? Could you make use of something built into the web browsers? I know there's something like a standard player, which plays basic stuff in web browsers, and it looks the same in all browsers.

I was just about to go on the search for mp3 players that I could implement in the site using html. Mp3 and video would be nice. If i happen to find something solid I can leave the links here for anyone else. For now though it looks possible to convert flash into html 5 so I'm looking into this option for now. Its a shame cause that flash site looks gorgeous but if its unusable to the alot of people then there's no point. At this point would anyone mind telling me why flash websites are a bad idea in your opinion?chk071 wrote:Btw, i only once created a very simple website for a relative, nothing at all fancy, but how difficult would it be to implement a MP3 player in your website using only HTML? Here are just a few:Tjgoa wrote:At this point would anyone mind telling me why flash websites are a bad idea in your opinion?
- The site won't work on practically any mobile device (smart phones/tablets), Linux support isn't too good either AFAIK.
- Flash sites are not SEO friendly - the site's content doesn't get indexed by search engines, also you typically don't see deep links in Flash sites.
- Flash sites typically load significantly slower and require more data to be downloaded
- Flash frequently shows major security issues.
- It screams "Hello, I'm from 1997"
There are some rare edge cases that justify or even require the use of Flash or similar techniques (e.g. Flash games or other very specific client applications), but those cases are implemented as applications embedded inside a normal web site. I can't see any justification or benefit for realizing a whole site in Flash.
If you want to create a web site, use HTML + CSS + JS. That's what those techniques are made for. Using Flash to build a web site is like using a hammer to drive a screw into a wall. If you need a very specific client app as part of your web site, first check whether it can't be done using HTML + CSS + JS. Often it can - HTML5, CSS3 and Javascript have become soooo powerful and widely supported, it's a blast to use. If all else fails, you may consider Flash, only for that specific part inside the web site.
