My partner has quite severe hyperacusis due to damage to one of her auditory nerves and, in addition, truly believes that the results of my sonic experimentation defy categorisation as music in any way, shape or form.Sampleconstruct wrote:

She actually tells me to "turn off that horrible noise" that she can hear from the other end of the room emanating from my open headphones.
I so rarely hear anything I produce with any "air in between" that it has at least saved me any expenditure on decent monitors!
Your compositions and patches always sound great in my Sennheiser 580s Simon!

So, speaking of.... the above 4 images I posted are quite useful!!
The following all use one (or two) of those four images (and nothing else):

This is all pure KS. No input signal, no extra FX at all...

I’m not sure I understand the meaning of the graph in Mod Display. Here are quick examples, can you, please, enlighten me a little bit?
In Soft Display (examples above) the emphasis on the left, center and the right sides of the display means that:
- all lines except the lowest are decreased in gain (soft a)
- all line except the middle are decreased in gain (soft b)
- all lines except the highest are decreased in gain (soft c)
This is rather clear. But what the examples mod a, b and c means in ‘human words’ (regarding to pixels remapping)?
Thank you in advance!

OK, here are some words for your example:
mod a:
Mod Functions : "Bell and Stripes" are quite powerful.... you can completely transform the images with these...
Load the image "Circle Half" in /images/KS 1.0/AV1/New Additions/Circular/
Try Bell and Stripes and move the Mod Curve from min to max... check out the result...
mod a:
- black pixels remain black/off
- low value pixels smoothly ramp to max value, and then back down
- high pixels are almost completely off
- max value pixels are exactly off i.e they become black
- black pixels remain black/off
- middle value pixels smoothly ramp to max value, and then back down
- max value pixels are exactly off i.e they become black

The Soft display is perhaps actually the the more confusing of the two... and you describe it incorrectly...
Soft is NOT tied to pixel row in the image. It is tied to line frequency. Hence the graphical display will be effected by the current tuning. The Soft display will look something like a 90deg rotated version of the tuning display that is stretched/squeezed in various ways depending on the Soft value and function...
check the manual for details.

Oh dear, that sounds, well...hmmm, not so amusing for you, sonic ignorance is a sin, you know!lnikj wrote:

I can see our first global KS summit coming up, in a grand threatre (dry acoustics are better for electronic music) with a 7.2 surround system installed, playing KS tracks at full blast 24/7.
Thank's - I wasn't dissing headphones in any way, I have quite a few models lying around here (also the Senns HD 25-1), but I so enjoy the sound of my Adams that I just don't need them.lnikj wrote: I so rarely hear anything I produce with any "air in between" that it has at least saved me any expenditure on decent monitors!

So when using pseudo-3D images pixels nearer to the viewer would sound behind the listener, actually an octophonic space would be cool, distribute the pixels to 8 speaker sources.

Thank you for explanation. Now I understand: the dark (low value) pixels are in the left side of the mod curve, the bright (high value) pixels are in the right side. Is this correct? This was the point, which prevents me to understand the Mod Display.Galbanum wrote:but simply looking that the curve explains this faster than my words, no?
Ah, yes, I see. I was experimenting with a rather linear tuning which gives me results which I posted in my previous message. Thank you for pointing me to the right direction.Galbanum wrote:The Soft display is perhaps actually the the more confusing of the two... and you describe it incorrectly...![]()

and yes, it is good to eliminate as many variables as possible when trying to first understand how everything works...
tunings "in order" are MUCH easier to understand/predict than out of order ones... (but out-of order ones can gives amazing novel results...)

Got this most beautiful sounding windgong yesterday (65 cm in ø) - this is high priority on the list of instruments to be kaleidoscoped next.

I assume it shall give, (except structurally) a quite similar influence on resonnators at some timbral aspects as the inner white noise generator does...Sampleconstruct wrote:Got this most beautiful sounding windgong yesterday (65 cm in ø) - this is high priority on the list of instruments to be kaleidoscoped next.
...so you might be able to anticipate the sonic results at certain degree, me thinks !
