Apple Acquires Camel Audio

Looks like it's a done deal:

Well a rumor, from close friends of the Camel Audio devs, finally confirmed.

And yes, PC users are forked over unless Apple proves us wrong and releases a possible successor to Alchemy in a cross-platform manner. Though that is highly unlikely.


We're already down to 10 pages on this as well. Any bets how long the current thread will be in the end? 30 pages? 50?

interesting use of the word 'already' ....'already' as in three years after the buyout and cessation of redmatica sales/support/activity for a vastly, vastly, vastly crippled hint at what the redmatic apps were. in mainstage/logic. bodes well it does not.

so it's taken a while the article i linked to made a stab at guessing why only mainstage got the auto-sampling. i'd guess, in the same vain, mainstage would not be the intended market for the rest of what made redmatica great. do you really think that an update to exs-24 will arrive without any of redmatica's tech ??

Actually, the fact that a lite, easy, cutdown version of Autosampler appeared in Mainstage but *didn't* appear in Logic suggests to me that something much better may be underway for Logic.

It seems like Apple are bit by bit reinventing the old, small, complex and geeky and non-retina friendly plugins into more modern and more in keeping with the design philosophy at Apple so I'd expect those old plugins to either be replaced or deprecated at some point. Some have already been replaced, and others, like the EXS24 are still there but are being a bit overshadowed by a middle layer of new Drum sampler instruments, and "Drum Designers" and so on with more modern and accessible interfaces.

Lots of people moaning about the Redmatica thing - well - just like Alchemy, my Redmatica apps are still working. And just like I can still access old PPC-only apps by running Snow Leopard on a VM. On the same machine I can run whatever Windows software I need. On the same machine I can even run my old Atari ST software.

To me at least, it sends a good message that Apple are committed to the Logic and audio platform on OSX, investing seriously in improving their tools and securing it's future, rather that deciding that the pro apps music platforms are no longer worth bothering with.

i agree. i have no issue with camel selling up. but people seem to be blaming apple for stitching them up. apple just made the offer, it was camel who had to decide to leave a whole chunk of their user's unhappy.

Everyone jumps to conclusions and makes stuff up without knowing if there are reasons behind the events, it's a bit sad. It is quite funny on one hand though, seeing the froth people work themselves into because they can hide behind their keyboards.

On the other hand, i can´t wait to see what will they do with this! (since i use Logic)

I can't understand why Apple made Logic Mac only - wouldn't they make more money by making a PC version too, since the PC market is much bigger? Or do they think they'll sell more Macs if they keep it Mac only?

Errr, presumably for the simple reason Apple is not solely about making as money as they can (and that's saying sth cause they're pretty obviously in it to make a shitload!): they're also a bunch of arrogant megalomaniac shitbrains who want their customers to be APPLE customers only, to buy Apple, to use Apple, to eat Apple(s) (that one kinda makes sense and is good for the health from what I've heard), to shit Apple (that one too: I'd shit Apple, well, I'd shit ON Apple anyday of the week for pure pleasure), to LIVE Apple!

I've used all those things in their plugin form, except Padshop Pro. If you think I was saying all synths owned by DAW developers are built-in only, all I can say is you have failed to understand. Have another stab at it sometime.

I hear you man, but then your original post about this doesn't make any sense to me anymore: why imply what you implied there if you already know that being part of a DAW for a synth doesn't necessarily equal being unavailable for any other DAWs?

People seemed to be waiting for Alchemy 2 and that probably won´t happen, that´s all i am saying.
