Ah, OK, I'm not used to irony here as KVR is usually about serious business.

Didn't you know, cat pics are not allowed on kvr unless there is much flogging from other members involved.

...Are the eyes photoshoped (badly so) or what?

How dumb of me not to have realized...

The thing is, though, is that IF Apple had any interest at all in acquiring the VST tech they could have went in and picked Steinberg right up. Doubt that scenario would happen though.

That's an interesting fact Sean. It only begs the question: why Apple users are less (and/or PC users are more) interested to come here?

It might be legacy from when it was kvr-vst.com.

I think it is pretty natural for forums to skew in particular directions. Gearslutz probably skews more OSX, especially in the High End sections. The Propellerhead forums tended to skew more heavily Reason than the rest of the world.

I participate in several forums, lurk in several others, and take everything with a grain of salt. At the end of the day, the only hard data that I have is my own sales statistics, and these are in agreement with what I have heard from other developers.

One thing I truly admire about the French is the decisive way you dealt with the bourgeoisie back in the day. Rapport à vous mes amis.

Shame us brits didn't follow suit - wouldn't have to deal with all this royal crap if we had.

Anyway, back on topic: The poll is flawed. There's no "Couldn't give-a-flying-F" option.

Yes and no, it all depends on the points of view. Keep in mind that, according with the VST SDK license, each and every VST plugin released MUST have the "VST Technology by Steinberg Gmbh" credit and the VST logo printed somewhere in the about box and/or manual.

In any case technically it's possible to make the VST format close. Only a few lines in the SDK license are required in order to change the rules of the game. The reason behind the decision of Steinberg to keep it open is that Steinberg owns Cubase, and for them has been more convenient to keep the VST format open until now. But things could change in the future.

It's not impossible for a company like Apple to consider to buy Steinberg and their licenses/patents. This makes sense in terms of money.
