Alchemy: New Banks. Are you going to buy?
From individual preset designers.
I'm working on one, and not sure where to go. There is no reason I can see, not to finish and sell my current Alchemy set.
What say ye?

If Simon from Patchpool makes one, I'm definitely buying!
I'm confident that I'll be able to continue using Alchemy 1.0 for many years without a problem.

Depends on the samples used really.
I am wishing I had picked up ArtRenaissance Projects when they were available though.
Other than that, many I would pass on too.
And I'm glad mine is as complete as it is ATM.

Simon Stockhausen is having an end of season sale and then retiring his sound banks. He seems to be quite stoical about it. But it must be a real pisser to have invested so much time and effort only to see it all go up in smoke.
I don't know about new sound sets. It depends whether Alchemy either continues under Apple or else become a sort of cult thing. I haven't bought that many myself, and when I have it's mainly been to study how others craft their presets. But I know a lot of people rely on them completely, so maybe there's still a market.

I sampled a half a dozen synths last year and seriously thought of making an Alchemy soundset from them to market, but soooo glad I stuck with Kontakt in the end.

I've been thinking of getting Kontakt, for awhile, seems like the best time to buy.quantum7 wrote:I sampled a half a dozen synths last year and seriously thought of making an Alchemy soundset from them to market, but soooo glad I stuck with Kontakt in the end.

As long as it runs, it's worth checking out new sound banks. Alchemy is still, and likely always will be, one of my top 4 go-to synths.

Well you're not alone - I was working on one too, and had just put off finishing it for a month or two while I saw which way the whole EU VAT thing was going after January. For myself, I don't think I'm going to release it now - aside from anything else, I reckon after June it'll make me a magnet for support requests for Alchemy, and I'm very bad at saying no to requests for help! But mainly I already have plenty else to be getting on with.abstractcats wrote:I'm working on one, and not sure where to go. I'll probably release some of the samples for free instead, maybe package some up for Kontakt.
I was just getting a really good workflow going with Alchemy, and even though it's a drag it's going to become abandonware soon, I still can't think of anything I could replace it with, so I'll definitely continue to use it for my own purposes until something better comes along. Which could be quite a few years, I reckon...
I'm not sure I'd buy anything new for Alchemy at this point, though, unless it was for the samples as much as the patches. I feel I have enough already!
But don't listen to me - I spent a long time on my soundset, with lots of breaks, and it's kind of gone off the boil, even if it was close to being done. If yours still excites you, release it - there are still a lot of Alchemy 1 users out there, and that won't change for a long while to come.
Good luck!

As long as it isn't another pad centric bank. Too many of those.
