Another example why I will not support small developers anymore.
Too much risk about future unlock codes, promised but withdrawn updates etc...

Post

The big ones are also vulnerable. You know Minecraft was bought by Microsoft for 2.5 billion dollars. That's the kind of money the giants are willing to give other devs for something they want. That's enough money to bend the arm of Ableton and native Instruments.

That doesn't work out.
Softimage was one of the biggest and best 3D applications on the market since the Silicon Graphics days, was bought by Microsoft, was bought by Avid, was then bought by Autodesk.
Last year it was dumped to the trashcan.
Apple trashed Aperture not long ago.
Apple bought and trashed Shake, a major player in the compositing world some years ago.
Native Instruments trashed Kore.
There is an endless list of things like that.

You can get burned from big vendors just as much or more as from small ones
I personally rely on small to medium developers wherever I can.

Cheers,

Tom

I'm a PC person and I couldn't give a monkey's; my Alchemy still works.

Perhaps you installed yours wrong
it's true, and what I thought with Logic 5 when apple bought emagic. But things evolve and after some time you end up moving to something else with the new functions that have become the norm (ofc this is more true of a DAW than a synth, but still)

That's an interesting comparison, but it goes the other way: For one, Mojang was never big and for another, Minecraft is still around, with no indication of it going away. The sale was explained by and large to customers and many assurances were given all around. It was played completely opposite to how Camel Audio chose to play it, as is painfully obvious when comparing Mojang's full page announcement to the glorified 'Error 404' from CA's website:
https://mojang.com/2014/09/yes-were-bei ... microsoft/
Yes, the deal is real. Mojang is being bought by Microsoft.

It was reassuring to see how many of your opinions mirrored those of the Mojangstas when we heard the news. Change is scary, and this is a big change for all of us. It’s going to be good though. Everything is going to be OK. <3

Please remember that the future of Minecraft and you – the community – are extremely important to everyone involved. If you take one thing away from this post, let it be that.

We can only share so much information right now, but we’ve decided that being as honest as possible is the best approach. We’re still working a lot of this stuff out. Mega-deals are serious business.
It goes on to answer questions about the future of the product, possible policy changes, etc. If someone can keep that customer focus over a pile of $2.8 BILLION, anybody can.

We were compensated by being paid at the time, unless you are talking about third party sounds, which would of course be totally unsupported by camel audio.

Ok agreed, but if it's really that invaluable to one's workflow in say 5 years when Windows 12 no longer supports it, then just keep an old PC around to run just this. And any similarly obsolete products.

"It's not scary. You just lose a sense of who you are and all that sh!t"

Kaboom can't put mixcraft and Native Instruments in the same sentence. NI has a shareholder who is a billionaire over in germany. Also, mate galic already answered the question about being bought.

Thats enough money to bend the arms of a lot of Giants even in the caliber of Steinberg and others.
And i simply do not care small or big developers, i care about quality only.
