It’s now officially open – yep! You have probably been seeing the audioshot and audioshots url sub domains posted for a while. :)

This has been pretty good for learning, as in this time I have acquired knowledge of what to expect from offering this type of service.

I am particularly interested in helping out artists get webspace of their own to make an impact of their own on the Internet. Free space is given to those with small projects or projects that go a long way to helping others in the audio and art related fields.

If you have a project – either big or small – and need the space – let me know.

What these servers are not for, is archives of files feeding other websites. It’s for you to make your own sites on the net, oh! and not to sub let either – it’s true it happens, unreal.

With regards to the pay for products - Don’t buy anything - Ask – I may well be able to offer a better package to fit your needs if you have need of greater space and have your own domain name.

Best regards,

Thanks Vurt – I have upped your bandwidth a while back – but if you manage to reach that limit I will let you know for sure.

Glurgle, thanks for popping in, you have made a valid point in the forum there, in fact it’s made me think about changing how the hyperlinks behave with that theme, as they merge with the text of the site, and unless a user is familiar with the theme, which a whole load won’t be, well they had no real chance of finding the link unless they accidentally hovered their mouse over the correct part of the text. Which is the real issue, but now I have added an email addy to be on the safe side until I get those links sorted.

Hi Spe3d,

Would such an account be a proper place to host some of my sampler patches?
Thing is, I have some webspace offered by my ISP, but it's just enough for my personal purposes (MP3s and perhaps some upcoming webshite), but I'd like to upload some of my (sometimes rather large) sampler patches. Of course they will all be made public (I mean, I have them allready, so why should I keep them hidden?).

Also, would it be possible to upload via FTP and would the locations/adresses be linkable straight from here?

FWIW, of course all the patches are free of copyright. FWIW #2: Format so far will be EXS, but that should be fine for all Kontakt and HALion users, further, CDxtract and Chickensys Translator support it as well.

Glurgle, check your inbox – message just sent – many thanks :)

Sascha,

Yes and no, in an instance like yours I can provide a space for your site and the smaller files no problem there, but when it comes to big files I really need to control their uptake as many people will leach files if given half the chance, this will consume bandwidth needlessly.

What I tend to do with big files is pop them in the download section at Harmony Counterpoint with whatever the artist wishes to write about the files and a link to their site is always available as is any logos or images. To actually download the file a user must be registered to Harmony Counterpoint (which is free) and they then click a link in the download section that fetches the file from one of a number of file holding tanks I have created on my servers. I move the files periodically to save people making the links available as direct downloads in other sites (which just ain’t cricket imo)

What you get then, is unlimited bandwidth and downloads from files that are in Harmony’s download section, as they would be in larger holding bays and controlled – plus a website for your smaller stuff and artist pages, plus any documentation you may wish to publish.

Ftp to upload yes – plus if you whish you can use a domain name (if you got one from somewhere like NameCheap – then point them to the name servers I would give you details for) you would be able to have a full cpanel package.

Best regards,

Spe3d

Just wanted to say a big thank you to Spe3d for sorting me out that quickly!
I may post a few (smaller) sampler patches later on allready.

Cheers

Hey speed,

Hmm this looks quite interesting, I've been thinking about having a wee site for my tunes and photography for a while now 8)

One quick q - The free one (I'm a tight arse) - am I right in saying that with the 500Mb limit, that a 5Mb mp3 could be downloaded up to 100 times in a month? I'm just trying to work out what would happen if I put one of my pooh tunes in the music cafe and it if it was quite big, and got quite a lot of downloads from people browsing...

Another vote of thanks to Spe3d who kindly gave me some space for my own website. I think it's fair to say that my web design skills are nothing short of stunning...(curious about my bandwidth tho??)

Spe3d was not only generous but really helpful in getting an idiot like me set up.

Nice one!

Cheers! Sascha, Cypher and vurt :D

Hi! Jim,

The 500 MB bandwidth per month is a guide line, but most actually use about 1 gig following this guide, apart from a couple who are a few gig’s higher. Basically I do have an upper limit and I work it out as a ratio based on the amount of bandwidth used across the amount of users under each sub domain, if your on a bigger project – you will be under a different domain name geared up for that size of project. If the freeshot projects get too big, ie the bandwidth hits a constant 3 gig p/m on each of the free 500 MB p/m acc. you get to hear about it from me, unless I feel there is room to keep the bandwidth clocking up, as other users may not been filling their potential and/or there are not that many users on the domain yet.

The audioshot domain is for home pages and small projects, and a few mp3’s/images showing the artists work, and gives an opotunity to create a website that does not cost heaps in advertising, pop/ups and stuff like that. I have another sub domain for samples, and gui work.

If your project is a tutorial site or something like that – it’s a different set of rules in the free area and I increase the size to fit the project, and I come to an arrangement with the developer/artist/user at that time.

If it's serious in size (big bandwidth - big big files) or commercial, then free is not an option, or again something can be arranged.

Spe3d

You can make a direct link to files from here to there - but you need to make a small website too, a directory with just files that are placed in forums around the world is a no, as long as you make a site your fine with the audioshot domain.

Jim, good to read :)
