I used to have a Yamaha keyboard (well, several) and they had a facility for auto-chording, based on the lowest 1.5 octaves of the keyboard (say C2->F3):
major chord = root key alone
minor chord = root key + a black key to the left root
7th = root key + a white to the left of root
minor 7th = root key + white + black both to left of root
Is there a host (or plug-in) that supports this? It's for a friend's machine, presently he has CW Home Studio 2002, he'll probably upgrade to the new "Version 2" one that comes with the VSTI adapter, and he's willing to get EXT but I don't remember that being one of it's capabilities.

I'd already looked at Mchord and Chordator, but they didn't look like they did quite the same thing the way I had in mind. For example, with Mchord you have to pre-program how it responds to which note, rather than auto-detecting what type of chord to play via multiple note-on (ie press C for Cmaj, followed by A+Ab for Amin, followed by F for Fmaj, ending with G for Gmaj, to cite the trite I-vi-IV-V chord prog)...
It's worth a shot though - I'm sure he can adapt - my friend bought a Yamaha keyboard from me, that's why he was interested in a facility like this for a sequencer.
I have EXT as well (I think I'm still at 1.24 or 1.25) but I haven't tried the chord component yet.
Thanks for the response (-:

There is an auto accompaniment Software playing Yamaha-styles:

Maybe it can do what You requested, but I would highly advise Your friend to LEARN some chords instead of become common to these crappy things of old entertainer-keyboards.

I know them I just cant play them fast enough to improvise a song. I come up with better ideas this way. I'm not limited by my inability to put fingers on the right keys fast enough.WOK wrote:
