No. The systems they use on your computer to run are not the same.Numanoid wrote:Same system that Steinberg continue to use...
PACE is a parasite that runs in continual background services.
eLicenser doesn't.

Again...my intention was not to start a war abotu PACE. But since you're talking about it....
I'm suggesting an alternative for PACE not instead of it. It's a win/wi for all. Are there nobody from UVI reading this thread. Afterall UVI is a partner to kvr.
and ..ok about PACE. One could sniff the data being transfered between the host on one's machine and the servr. That would creal a few things out I think.

Hi folks,
Yes, we are following this thread, thank you all for trading your thoughts !
AKAIK, most of our users are felling good with our licensing system. Due to popular demand and listening to many users feedback, we now support the machine-based authorization since January 10th, 2014, and we provide up to 3 concurrent per license for any products registered after March 25th, 2014. So I guess we now have the most friendly licensing system
Any user having issues with his licenses simply needs to contact our Customer Support through the online form :
http://www.uvi.net/contact-support
No UVI user has been left so far
Even if an activation is lost due to a hard drive failure, we send a new license.
Let me know if there is anything I can clarify.

It's good that you are keping an eye of what users and potential users think abotu your products and license system.UVI Doctor wrote:Hi folks,

It's nice that many of your users are happy with PACE.
As you've seen I'm requesting an alternative to PACE not instead of.
I don't know if and what technical issues there are wiht implementing an alternative system.
But I have seen that it can be done. XILS-Lab do for instance offer both PACE and eLicenser.
Having an option of choice , I think, is good for the customers. And eventually would increase the number of potential customers. Like me for example. And maybe, just maybe, I'm not the only one who don't go with UVI just becase of PACE and the lack of alterntive. It's a pitty because It's not UVI I'm rejcctin but rather the licensing system.
Cheers !

@sfd, PACE is the most efficient system so far. There is no alternative planned. I don't see what would be the difference between opening iLok License Manager and eLicenser Control Center (or any other license center on the market)

His problem is an irrational hatred of what he calls "parasitic virus software" itself.UVI Doctor wrote:@sfd, PACE is the most efficient system so far. There is no alternative planned. I use iLok for all my EWQL stuff, Cubase, and a ton of stuff. My whole business depends on this PC and I've had no problems with iLok at all.
But some people are just irrational and there is nothing you can do about it.

I really hope that's the case. I emailed you guys a while back, a few times I think, about loosing the license from a dongle for the Plugsound Pro and a few libraries. I paid 500$ in total and can't use the product. I have all the installation disc but not the licenses. I bought it atleast 5 years ago. Maybe you can send me another license. I can provide name, address, email, and any other info. Who can I email that will actually get back to me? You? I already tried that contact from the uvi webpage and nothingUVI Doctor wrote:Hi folks,

Arturia used to use Steinberg eLicenser, until they started using their own scheme recently.

Whatever. The point is, I do cinematic scores and without EWQL and iLok I'd be out of business.EvilDragon wrote:Cubase doesn't use iLokwagtunes wrote:I use iLok for all my EWQL stuff, Cubase, and a ton of stuff. My whole business depends on this PC and I've had no problems with iLok at all.
There is nothing wrong with iLok. It's just irrational hatred.

But some people are just irrational and there is nothing you can do about it.
The irrational people exists on both sides, and its equally frustrating with people who cannot see or imagine that other people might have real issues - just because they themselves never experienced them.
Dongles have never been as stable and invisible as now, that's for sure. But that does not say issues are gone. Me personally have always been on the lucky side. Never had any crashes or dongles dying on me. I've always thought of them as pretty neat.
But last months I've had a terrible issue with Waves not showing up on my iMac. On my Macbook - no problem, but on the iMac - absolutely nothing. After a couple of hours of reinstalling and trying to track down the problem, I gave up and moved my licenses to a different usb memory. That solved it right away.
Not a big deal - and I "just" had to spend a couple of hours fixing a problem I - at least consciously - wasn't the cause of. But it shows the complexity with external copy protection methods, and I can totally understand why some people stay clear of them.

Yes, Dongles can go bad. Just like your PC can go bad. My other PC just died on me. Fortunately, it's not my music PC or I'd be up a creek without a paddle. The fact that we rely on software at all for our business is dangerous as hell. Your PC crashes, everything goes. It's not like with a hardware setup you just replace the piece that went bad be it keyboard, mixer or whatever. With a crashed PC, it's a complete reinstall of every piece of software you own. This can take days of not a week or more depending on how much you have.DrGonzo wrote:Sigh.wagtunes wrote:UVI Doctor wrote:I use iLok for all my EWQL stuff, Cubase, and a ton of stuff. So if you're going to claim iLok is bad because it works off a dongle that might go bad, do yourself a favor and toss your PC in the trash and go to a hardware studio because as long as you're relying on computers and software for your business, you're treading on thin ice.
I am speaking as someone who has been working on computers since 1975 and have seen more than my fair share of OS, crashes, deaths and what have you in 40 years.
I am looking forward to the day when I can retire and not have to worry about this crap anymore.
