I think finally I've got some nice drums happening.. they're not super crisp
but I'm pretty happy!

It is...

and I think the drums sound okay, but need way more variation. And what felt so terribly off is the conga's that are there constantly; after a while they become rather boring (especially since they repeat the same pattern over and over).

I am als missing some lead-work here and pads. There is so little melody going on that I get distracted quite easily.

Try to cut this down into parts and portions with breaks inbetween. This will allready increase the listening enjoyment a lot allready.

One other thing: what the heck happened at 4.23?

First of all not bad production wise. Musically, I think I see where you're going. Yet, this tune is a bit too repetitive even for trance type music. The congas need to stop at some point, you can bring them back in at intervals but break it up to give some variation or/and change the pattern. The drums themselve definitely need a little more variation. And why do the leads/basses all solo? Maybe some of them should cohabit the same measure after their introduction. Also noticed a bit of strangeness at 4:23.

Anyway, keep it up could lead to something really nice.

my suggestion: don't get stuck on loops, and don't always think in terms of progressive layers, layers of sound only go so far, variation of timbre, key centers, and rhythm is what you need.

not bad but i agree with the critism in the posts above. and i'd like to add to that...speed it up! now it just plods along instead of excites. it may also help to play with a stereo field. Though i am serious that mono = cool!

I'm a stinkola drum programmer, so I can't tell you much but I say loosen up the snare a bit. I really like that little "fly by" sound that you have going throughout! But I think you should drop it out sometimes and use it a bit more sparingly.

Unless you put some more twists and turns, then the tune should be shorter because of the repetition. I like the mix as a whole and like the sounds you use, but because its so minimal, I don't think you can keep the listener going for 7 minutes.

Great tune tho, I love the feel. To me it just needs some more ear candy

Mono! When I export from Cubase this is how it turns out! Is this wrong? I don't know any other way!

Question.. when you guys put say, a drum track together.. do you do the parts separately and export to convert the midi to audio so you can tweak each part?? or just leave as midi?
