It blew all your SM and SE synths out of the water? What an achievement

Yea that's not exactly a really high bar to jump over............ :P

IMO, ambient music sounds better than heavy metal. Does that hold true for everyone? Hardly. So why discuss about it.

What would be cool is the sound and CPU efficiency of Sylenth AND the features and creativity of certain SE/SM synths all packed into one synth :)

Why do people keep saying those things? You seem to think a synth is basic as soon as it is subtractive only. Charlatan is a basic subtractive synth in my view...
Yes it is. Whats your point?
He recently bought Sylenth and since then he doesn't miss any opportunty to praise/defend/justify his purchase... :D

Nah. In fact, there are at least half a dozen things I would like to see improved/added...
And yes, by and large I am happy with it, so why would I not defend it? Many people here seem to do the opposite...

Well, since Sylenth is clearly more complex and comprehensive than Charlatan, which you agree is basic, the same label seems inappropriate for Sylenth.
Both sound poor imo. I aready had Albino and Zebra (among other synths) when sylenth came out. It doesnt sound better than those and doesnt have as many useful features, so i didnt buy it.
While it may not sound as good as some of the latest synths, saying it sounds poor is ridiculous in my view. It does have a specific sound character, which is good for some things and not so good for others. Depends on what one wants and needs...
I like the raw sound of Sylenth. I have compared it to many other synths, saw to saw, so to speak :) It blows all my Synthedit and Synthmaker synths out of the water, especially on lower octaves the difference is striking. That was important to me as I like to bend synth basses.
With Sylenth one has to use the equalizer (which is one feature I would like to see improved, though) just like on Element. Without EQ the sound is good, but not nearly as good as it could be.
That is why I liken Sylenth to a boombox... you need to turn on the "Bass Booster"TM to sound decent

A Good set of studio monitors sound good as is.

It's funny then that the only things I hear you say about it is that it is a good substitute for an analogue mono synth and that the bass sounds the same as a Moog (or close enough that only pedantic nitpickers would care)

Post

Doesn't that apply to most synths? I remember Saurus, when disabling the effects it also sounded much less impressive. Dry waveforms only sound so good. Ideally, they sound good across the keyboard and without any aliasing.

But then again, why not use such tools when they are included? Does it really make a difference if I use the internal equalizer rather than an external one, which most people do, anyway?

Indeed, its sound is good enough to recreate classic analog sounds with sufficient authenticity (of course Diva, Lush etc. are better at it, but they also use a whole lot more CPU power).
The sound is not the problem, but I would like to see certain features improved or added. For instance a delay control for LFO onset. More modulation targets. Things like that...

There, fixed that for ya :-)
