"In a landmark decision for the songwriting industry, a jury in Los Angeles has ordered “Blurred Lines” songwriters Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams to pay $7.3 million to the family of Marvin Gaye for copyright infringement."

WOW, somehow I didn't see that coming...

It'll be appealed , the next process is it goes to a higher court , and either a settlement is reached , case gets thrown out , sues for an even higher amount . etc etc . we'll see .

Apart from the groove I don't think they sound that similar.

I guess the little hat enthusiast is not so happy anymore. :D
Whoever wants music instead of noise, joy instead of pleasure, soul instead of gold, creative work instead of business, passion instead of foolery, finds no home in this trivial world of ours.

Whoops Jury trial , don't know if they can win an appeal from that , maybe its the same court and jury that decided the iPhone vs Samsung phone fiasco .... I thought that was B.S. :dog:

So , I've YouTube both songs as I have earlier last year sometime . Yes , the beat is simular but not a copy , the vocal and bass line is not the same , anyone remember " come on the ride the train you ride it " song , similar beat different percussion instruments and a whistle, but also a similar beat . The Pharrel beat has the same percussion instruments sound as the Marvin Gaye track and the beat is simular but not quite a copy . I don't get this verdict . Man there Lawyer must of sucked bad .

Yep. Both Robin Thicke and Pharrel tried to sue Marvin Gaye first though...

So, there must have been some intent on Thicke's side to provoke this scenario...

Beats are nearly similar with some variations with the exception of the cowbell. The singing melodies are different. This was a weird verdict, suspect the jurors were tone blind.

:hihi: Wheres Will Pharrell at with his Cowbell , or Christopher Walk-in ...

Bad decision by the jury. Same style, similar arrangement, different melody. If this can be appealed, which I expect so, I'd expect this to be overturned. Otherwise, this sets a scary precedent. "Your original song sounds too much like you tried to make it sound like a Beatles song, even though it's completely original. Pay up."

Let's find the first song to use a four on the floor kick and make that songwriter rich! Sue everyone!

Ridiculous.

This would be like if the Beatles sued Oasis ...
