With chopped almonds and those little chunks of white chocolate.

Alchemy decided to take a crap on its customer base and the owner deserves a place in infamy for that. There is more to life than money.

I will continue to use what I have of course and I like a few of the sounds in alchemy player so I will use them simply because of that fact but I will search other VSTI for the sounds I am searching for and invest my efforts in other directions and continue to encourage other developers to take a bite out of camels user base because they did not deserve the customer base they created if this was how they intended to abuse them.

CA was a company not a charity.

I love Alchemy's sound. But I rarely use it because of the CPU hit.
I had hoped that further development would create efficiencies that would make it much more usable.
I have a half dozen or so addon packs which all sound great, but again, the power hit is just a bit much.

In contrast, I recently acquired Omnisphere and am pleasantly surprised that I can run multiple instances without so much as a cramp. Nice meaty sounds that slip right into the mix. And, very important for me, perhaps the best vox/human vocal library I've ever used in a vsti.

That's really odd Berfab. CA on my system is low on CPU.
I agree with your assessment of Omnisphere :tu:

I guess the biggest complaint I have about Alchemy is the lack of multi MIDI channels like Omnisphere has. (Which is many fewer than Kontakt :tu:. I haven't dared though to add 64 instruments yet :D )

I would have preferred multi channels but adding another instance is easy enough. Except for confusing me which instrument is which then :hihi:

BTW - FWIW, I'll be using Alchemy till it dies. It's got a lot going for it and I can't do anything about the politics behind it. At this point the politics are irrelevant to me.

Happy Musiking!

Same here.

To the Camel Crappers...I think it would be wonderful if'n y'all spend your time learning DSP and C++ and donate all your software for free. Remember, Camel was never set up as a charity.

strange as I can have 5 or 6 instances of Alchemy (and often do) but more than 2 Omnisphere kills my system

My Core i5 in my laptop can get 8 instances.. is someone trying to run Alchemy on a Commodore 64? Of course, each instance is only running 2 notes... :hihi: :hihi:

I never had any performance issues on my desktop i5 (2nd generation). Companies, and therefore products, come and go. I really do feel that it was a shame that there wasn't some kind of blowout sale. Alchemy will most likely work for many people for years to come and I'd have loved the opportunity to grab some soundbanks before they disappeared from sale.

Not a Commadore 64. Dell XPS PC desktop running Win 7.

The Alchemy hit might very well be due to the fact that I only seem to use patches with complicated architecture and effects along with high poliphony.

But I'm also abusing a lot of other instruments (Omnisphere, Halion 5 to name two) without a serious problem.

I have to admit that there may now be less of a problem since updating Cubase to Pro 8, which seems to have increased efficiency generally. But I still have the original impression of Alchemy stuck in my head.

Next project I open, I'll throw Alchemy around in there and see what happens. I will also check to make sure I've got the latest version of Alchemy installed (though I generally stay on top of updates for all my stuff).

cheers

OMG, since we do NOT know WHAT Apple will do with Alchemy... speculations here can be endlessly moving further..... so, this might be called "the thread that reached for the stars", not bad for a bunch of former camel riders!!

What they will do with it? Easy thing: You won't get it unless you own Logic, simple as that. My 200 cents.

indeed..the fact that at the era of virtual electronic we can assume that alchemy doesn't mean very much things, sadly...

True, I've used a few sounds that tended to act up if I threw too many notes at it (sometimes as few as 8) so I imagine things could go bad quickly. Hopefully things will improve for you..

alchemy, like some other complex synths & effects, has a pretty wide range of CPU hit depending on what you do with it.... use it as a VA with sampled sources, not so much, but kick in a patch with 4 different additive oscillators with the max harmonic set high and some spectral stuff on the side, and things really start to heat up.

still mad a crapple! :(
