I worked on this today & I am finding it hard to use just one synth, which is great.

I am not a huge fan of some things about Synthmaster's ADSRs, and I really don't like the implementation of FM. Otherwise, this is really a good synth, capable of a huge variety of sounds. For the price (about $65), this synth cannot be beat.

One question - I have made about 20 or so sounds. In case anyone is interested in them, what is the normal way to provide them to be shared?

Even more than the contest, I am finding the forum (or, more exactly, its participants) to be quite interesting. For example, doctorbob's pictures are incredible :o . I have been around the office version of anger and great power, but never exposed to anything quite like that. Really amazing.

Anyway, not that anyone is waiting on my entry, but I am posting this here to force myself to finish. It will be up prior to the end of the month.

That is a very peculiar issue. Can you try the different compatibility modes for Synthmaster (E.g. own process, etc)? Also, something I've had to do periodically when I encounter a problem is save the project under a different file, then try deleting half the tracks and render, see if it crashes, if so, try deleting the other half see if that can get around it. Keep doing it with smaller chunks of tracks until I find the track that's the culprit... Sometimes it's just one random automation line that causes a problem.

Also, are you saying that the freeze track option in reaper will crash at 3 minutes, no matter which track you choose?

Tried freezing a track that not worked with single play before and freeze seems to work. That's strange. Taking time tomorrow to see what happens to other channels...

Thanks.
Here is what I discovered until now.
There was one single track that always crashed on freeze. And it crashed not only on play/rendering. Also on just letting Reaper doing nothing with loaded project.

Muting the track lets me play through the song.
Build up a duplicate track with almost same SM Player options. Played some seconds longer and crashed again. Having no automation on this track except volume.

The used patch is FX Scratch UK on this track, but on others too. It maybe some option that I used on this patch. Earlier I had SM Player crashing when moving around in the X/Y Frames and getting close to the border. Maybe some 0 value exception??? On this particular track I used one of those "close to border" values. Moving it light to center was no solution. I may have to go further.
Need to figure that out.

Nice work! Can you just design a similar sound from scratch?

Yeah, did that. Everything is fine!
Thanks again. It was to late yesterday to find this solution by myself. ;)

Hi,

so just to break out of my usual routine I tried a different approach this time: no complete composition before firing up the DAW, just four chords (that is not much for me) and a bassline. It worked, I think, at least the result is different from what I did so far, a tad more experimental. If it is any good I cannot tell...

I used solely the free Player, didn't notice the community patches until just now but then the free version has 200 patches which is more than enough to create a piece of music anyway.

Ok, here is my entry.

Used - 23 tracks of Synthmaster in Live with native Reverb, Simple Delay, Auto Pan, Saturator, and Multiband Dynamics (none of which I really know how to use). Really, I am not very good at writing, programming, sequencing, or listening, so I am looking forward to any feedback you have.

Thanks! :)

Hi GrokSynth, there are different ways to share your patches with the community:
1: Register here: https://www.dropbox.com/de/
create a zip file, upload it to your dropbox account, release it to public and post the download link here in this thread.
2: Create a zip file and upload it here and tell us that you did:
http://www.kvraudio.com/product/synthma ... /downloads
3: Create a zip file and attach it to your post here. When you write a post, scroll a bit down and at the left side you will see "upload attachment". That`s the easiest and fastest way I guess.

Your track: Hm I`m not known as the most critical when it comes to music and so I can`t give you any nitpicking detailed critique here, because I simply like it very much exactly how it is now :D

It reminds me a bit on the soundtrack of the serial "Breaking Bad" which has an amazing sound track. I wonder what genre this could be called. However: I like it a lot and for me this is again a new great finding for my playlists  :tu:

@Mojo42 - Thank you so much; you are far too kind. :)

I don't know what genre either; that is another thing I don't know much about.

I should be able to upload my patches in a couple of days (travelling right now).

I've been messing with the vocoder, to try to assign it as a filter cutoff modulator controlled with my voice. I can't for the life of me figure out a way to route audio into the synth. I can use the SynthmasterFX vocoder no problem by inserting it on an audio track. My guess is that the Synthmaster synth vocoder can't use audio in, only midi and internal sounds. Odd that it offers the audio input option.
Is anyone using the vocoder as a modulation control? I'm using Cubase, perhaps it's possible in other DAWs?

It doesn't show up as having inputs in Bitwig, either. Reaper would tell for sure, I think; I can take a look tonight... I also experimented with that a bit, but couldn't figure out how to send to the audio in, with actual Synthmaster, either.

Thanks z. No biggie, I can always do my 'singing' with the mod wheel, would be fun though to use a mic instead. Will be curious if you have any luck with Reaper.

It says in the rules that Effects that pitch the sound are not allowed, I take it that pitch bending either manually or automated are allowed though, is that correct ?

Absolutely! MIDI pitch bend messages to the synth are perfectly fine, just not plugins that post-process the audio with pitch effects.
