I just a/b Mr Ray with Fruity Keys
(now that should be super effective code wise no?)
couldn't get any more native.
and apart from MrRay making Fruity Keys look like a happy meal the cpu is not that much more, and well worth it for that sound.

High CPU usage in SE is mainly a problem with 3rd party modules and bad connections. Not a problem with SE itself. In fact i recently started a mini website where I'm gonna post some ideas that I have on how to improve connections. Here it is:

ez poly it's one of the sweetest...period.
(though soloing with ez is veeeery funky...)
GreenMachineII it's a great tool, but it's overpriced, imo.
I can buy a V-Amp with those bucks, maybe less sexy, but "real". (oh my, sayin' it for an amp-sim!)

FWIW: I don't have anything against SE creations.
Whether they use more CPU power or not isn't of much interest with nowadays machines (at least not for me).
However, what I wanted to say: SE has caused a revolution!
Not only that you can now build your own VSTis if you dive a bit into modular synthesis (or better: signal flow design), not only that there's TONS of (sometimes rather nice) freebies around... No, the main thing is that it had made other companies think about their pricing policies! Or, as an alternative, companies will now have to release something REALLY good. Just releasing another 2-3 Osc, single filter, 2-3 LFO synth simply won't work anymore, at least not if you expect to make some money´- there will allways be some SE creation being just as good for free (plus tons of more innovative sound design things).
And that's the best thing about SE, if you ask me.
The only downside: No platform compatibility. Unfortunately these days I have to do some of my work on a Mac and it's a shame that I'm missing some of the nice SE creations (and other Win-only VSTs).
