@ DSmolken

In smdrums_all_kit.sfz 98 should be 99

Code: Select all

#define $CR13V 93
#define $CR15V 95
#define $CR16V 97
#define $CR17V 99 <-
#define $CRCV 101
And the rim shot key 39 does not respond to velocity, it plays a different sample but the volume stays the same.

Ride 20 edge key 63 is panned right.

Just some observations, love what you did so far.

Thanks, that's the kind of testing this needs.

That 98/99, I just typed the wrong number when incrementing them after realizing that I had left out one of the hi-hat controls. The ride 20 was more interesting - it wasn't just panned hard right, the panning was associated with its volume CC rather than pan CC, so the quieter you turned it down, the more it moved to the left. LOL.

The rimshot samples had velocity mapping like everything else but they appear to be normalized, so I turned velocity tracking back on for those. But not to 100% - that makes the quietest layers too quiet in comparison to the rest of the snares, at least that's how it feels when playing them from the keyboard. So I tried 80%, feels right but somebody with a proper drum controller needs to check that.

A version with the above fixes:

Has anybody caught any other bugs?

And when it comes to features, what are the samples in the hi-hat #2 folder like - worth adding as an alternative or mapping to some extra higher keys?

Preliminary tests show everything where it should be.

But tonite im gonna break out the drum pads to try this in detail.

Meanwhile here are some test screenshots from Reaper as to how I arranged it :

I played for an hour tonite with a grin on my face....It was fantastic....
But my drum skills are an ugly mess......

So I finally used one of Tod's excellent midi's.

There is no eq or fx. Only some volume and pan adjustments.

Once again, THANK YOU DSmolken.

I would love someone to test this amazing sfz set and pick out more stuff like Yeager did.

Great to hear that.

It could use some really boring and thorough testing, though - loop a bunch of hits on one element through all the velocity layers, play with the controls and make sure that the controls do what they do and controls from other elements don't affect it, then move on to the next one.

I really like how the snare rolls sound in that demo. I think the snare bus could make some very nice organic snare risers for EDM. Btw, all the round robins are random except for the snares that only have two RRs - those alternate instead.

I think you're pretty much there.

Everything in the "smdrums_all_kit.sfz" now works as it should. :hyper:

Personally I would like to have the kick on B(35) too, but that is something I changed myself.
For the China I also changed the amp_veltrack=100 and the sidestick also, but that is just to my taste.

@muslimpunk :
What I can also hear from your mp3 is a lot of cut off samples,I also had this and it was bugging the hell out of me, so this is what I did:

In FLStudio I turned on the "Use fixed buffers" and changed the "Max RAM allocation" to 1 GB and pre-cashing to 256 Kb in the Sforzando Settings Tab.
Save the project and reload it for the changes to take effect !!!!

Same for REAPER : "Max RAM allocation" to 1 GB and pre-cashing to 256 Kb in the Sforzando Settings Tab.
Save the project and reload it for the changes to take effect !!!!

You can see if you did it right by watching the Setting tab on sforzando an see that there is no "Disk Loss" while playing your project.

And it sounds like this without dropout/cutoffs :

I also use 2 snareroll samples from the Big Mono in this kit, but the samples are not as loud as I want them to be, is there a way to "boost" volume in the sfz, like f.i. volume+6Db and still have to volume sliders work ?

All in all great work DSmolken, and I really like this kit :)

I was not mentioning the samples being cut off, because i thought it was something wrong with my setup ... Thanks for that tip dude ! Highly appreciated.

Edit : one interesting thing is that this sample cutoff only happends when a wave file is rendered from the midi data. As long as im playing the drums via pads or via a midi file there is no sample cutoff !

Hmmm... since the China has the fewest velocity levels it might make sense to turn velocity tracking on for it and do a few velcurve_XXX opcodes so that each velocity layer will play at full volume at the top of its velocity range.

I think so... try adding gain=6 or volume=6 to the regions you want. That might not interfere with the amplitude_onccXXX=100 opcodes that are there now.

@ Yeager : my pre cache setting for sforzando goes till 128 kb only.

And I set Max. Eng. RAM alloc. to 1 GB...

Still i get the sample cutoffs....

What version are you using? What do the "Player Update" and "Engine Update" buttons tell you?

Errrrr... Where are these buttons ?

Post

Lower left of the Settings tab, the one after Controls.

Post

Ok i just got the latest version from the website because i couldnt see the buttons. Now i can see them. And there is an option to increase caching to 256 kb.

Increasing this changes the rendered wav a little. Some of the sample cutoffs are gone, but many still remain ( toms and crashes especialy ).

This is strange, you would expect that rendering would be easier than playing live.

You use the Bus version of the sfz's but when you look at the used RAM Total in the settings tab of sforzando, it's about 1 Gig ? ... and there is no Disk Loss when you play live ? or a midi file ?
