Well, I missed the part where they said they upgraded the sound engine. If that comes across well that might make it worth a purchase. I'll definitely give it a demo.Robmobius wrote:Thanks what I thought too... - Enhanced sound quality because the synthesis engine has been completely reworked
- Over 260 (=827-563) additonal patches
- Completely reworked all factory sounds
- Added a comfortable patch browser
- Much more detailed emulation of the 'analog' sound. The degree of analog behaviour is now selectable.
- Redesigned graphics
- More comfortable user interface
- A huge number of further new features and enhancements
- Saurus2 is 100% downward compatible with all previous versions
Tone 2 - Saurus 2 is available

I am not sure how both of these can be true:
- Replaced oscillators with more 'analog' sounding ones
- Saurus2 is 100% downward compatible with all previous versions
Does it mean Saurus2 patches will load in Saurus1 but will sound different?
Looking forward to trying it out in any case.

no, why would that be useful?Frantz wrote:I am not sure how both of these can be true:

OK, will v1 patches sound different in v2? If so, is that 100% compatible?Kriminal wrote: It means v1 patches load in v2

If you campare these changes with DIVA than you know what is the value for money if you get so many presets and features for free, I also haven't heard a quality difference by same preset in electra1 and 2 so i bet the main change will be adding some presets and two or three options. Tone2 is a very expensive company if you want to add some soundbanks or have to update a 3 year old synth, but I'll compare my V1 with v2, but I don't expect a VA Beast like Diva, Monark, Lush, synthix or Oddity so I am sure the update will not justify the amount of the update price.

For some of *my* favourite developers, like u-he and Spectrasonics this would be a .5 free update. Maybe they have spoiled me or maybe they are and should remain the exception?
I am sure I will pay for the upgrade too, but it doesn't enamour me towards Tone2 (not that that should be their intent).
I think it is possible (like Zebra did from I think 2.3 to 2.5) to have backward compatibility soundwise AND new components.
In Zebra, older presets used the 2.3 components and newer ones you could select to use the 2.5 components (or 2.3 if you so wish)

Doh, it's supposed to be like that if v. 2 is 100% compatible with v. 1 presets...sacer wrote:I also haven't heard a quality difference by same preset in electra1 and 2

To me 100% compatible means that one can load old ones in the new version, but not necessarily that they sound 100% the same, which is not even realistic when it says they have completely reworked the synth engine. So I assume that old patches loaded in version 2 sound slightly different, but better.
The opposite would be Dune 2, where you simply can't load Dune 1 patches.

The user interface is a beauty, almost like hardware invites you to tweak those controls...V0RT3X wrote:
