The Nexus 9 is pretty nice, but it pales in comparison to the iPad Air 2 and doesn't even cost much less (and is limited to 32 GB). There are apps for DAW control on Android, and Lemur has an Android version now also, but iOS is really king in the mobile audio area (Audiobus and all that it makes possible is just fantastic).

Two things stop me getting an ipad, the price and the walled in iTunes. I dont want to have to have Apple dictate what I can/cant do with my device. Full Windows 8 Tablets are available for $100 or less, best of both worlds. Will work with most Windows programs and some vst plugs.

Most Windows programs I would want to use on a tablet don't support touch interfaces or aren't designed for it. I tried a few of the cheaper Windows tablets, and none of them convinced me in terms of hardware, performance, battery life, usability (software-related). If I were to get a Windows tablet, I'd go for a Surface Pro 3, but that's a different price category. Mileage may vary, though.
I agree that the walled garden of iOS devices is bothersome, but with Dropbox and some third party PC-side programs (ranging from Air servers to iFunbox) it's manageable. I rarely use iTunes these days. But yes, it's definitely a downside.

There are several apps that enable you to dispense entirely with iTunes if you don't want to use it. I particularly like this one as it supports more audio formats inc Flac, most movie formats, and can browse files on my Mac using SMB so when I'm at home I can access any music or video file that is on my Mac via wifi as well as a wifi hard drive when I am out, and most cloud servers too (Dropbox, iCloud, Box, Google drive etc), even ftp servers.UltraJv wrote:Two things stop me getting an ipad, the price and the walled in iTunes.

it's the Swiss Army knife of iOS file management and one of the most useful iPad apps going.

Just got myself a Lenovo Yoga 2 10.1 for £186 from Argos
(Normally £250)
Not interested in iPads due to the silly cost (of tech which is redundant in a few years) and closed nature of the OS.
I like full access to the file system and freedom to tweak as I want.
Working great with Lemur over wifi and tethered
More convenient than the touch monitor which cant be taken to bed!

this I don't quite understand. Do you mean the Lemur editor of the Lemur application? Lemur application does not run on Windows, only iOS and Android.VariKusBrainZ wrote: Working great with Lemur over wifi and tethered
