We spend lots of money on gear, but no-one cares about our music lol.

We spend a fortune on expensive computers, monitors, headphones, software....etc, just to make music that no-one gives 2 shits about :D My tracks only get an average of around 50 plays each, and I have free downloads enabled....the most downloads I ever got for one track was 10, usually much less though. Also the people in my real life know I make music, yet they never ask me anything about it....they are just not interested in the type of music I make.

I'm guessing its much the same for most of us on here, right?

Well, I suppose the percentage of talented people has not increased just because we have much more access to the gear now.

A lot of people seem to make instrumental music, which however only interests so many people. The voice still is and always will be at the heart of a song to most people. And that is where the problem starts: few people can write good lyrics and few people can sing. Most people are also too young, so they don't have much experience in life, thus not much to sing about, except for the usual baby this baby that crap...

Finally, there is quite some saturation, music is everywhere, it is nothing special anymore. It is like eating caviar every day 8) People also have less time to listen attentively, music has become just a background thing most of the time...

I suppose there are a lot of people who try to make it in the music industry because most normal jobs suck.

Sometimes I also think I might be wasting my time, precious time...

Many, many people have forgotten how to listen to music.

If you want to get noticed, you either need to game the system (spam, cheat, annoy the fk out of people), or be VERY unique, VERY talented and VERY lucky.

That said, most people just don't really have anything much to say, and are just making music in the way a child might enjoy a colouring book. So, yes, saturation a gogo!

Everyone and their dog can make passable sounding electronic music and release it for free. Even if you have something truely special, good luck getting it heard by those who would treasure it! The democratization of music isn't all it's cracked up to be, in my opinion. :(

You could at least tell us where we can find your music - maybe this thread will get you some new followers!

I wish there was a better music platform than Soundcloud. With my slow internet connection it needs many minutes to open the website and to download a song, and sometimes the Soundcloud player doesn't work at all (because I'm using Opera?). It's always a fight with Soundcloud, so most times I do without... :x

People are loving my music though.

My secret is to get it as loud as f**k,and to just bring forth sparingly selected details like a very huge kick drum and a little three/four note melody with some noise here and there.

Furthermore, in my opinion this waveform display of Soundcloud is degrading music - it makes würstel out of everything. I'd rather watch nothing at all or at least some nice visualization or a funny Youtube video...

I want to dive into music, I don't have to see in advance where the drops are... :uhuhuh:

And then, music has to convey a feeling - no matter whether it's love, sorrow, angriness, happiness, fun or whatever. But I don't listen to boring EDM music which is like toilet paper...

I don't make music for the end product, I enjoy the process, I enjoy new stuff and learning- 'making' music is fun, Uploading it and caring if people listen is not. I Can't even find the time to listen to professional well produced music by talented song writers on Spotify - why the hell would I expect anyone to listen to my noodeling!

Make more, publish less, expect nothing.
X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

8) No complaints here, have 3 projects getting some attention/paid gigs and I'm getting paid by bands to record their music that no one cares about every so often. But then I do spend more time playing gear than buying it or talking about it. ;)

mine love it so much they send me fan mail.:hyper: well I actually havent read any of the letters all the way thru as they kind of start bogging down about something about how the tenants should turn down their noise, presumably in order to hear mine more clearly. or something along those lines, but i'm not in it for the accolades, just the drugs...

This is every creative outlet.. music, art, photography, moving pictures, writing, etc

We have better tools and a larger audience now than ever in history. On the flip side, this also means everyone else has better tools and a larger audience now which then means there is a larger number of people doing the 'same' thing you are doing out there.

In music (especially electronic forms) now anyone can be a musician. This is great, in a way, because so many get to see they have a gift they didn't know they had. Others just get to be creative and experiment with music. It is fine.

Just download some software on your computing device (which just about everyone under the age of 50 owns today in the West) and you are now making music. So there is a far larger number of people capable plus the tools themselves have improved to make it easier to record music. No taking Piano or Guitar lessons for years to then save up thousands for instruments and a 4 track to record in hopes of catching the ear of someone in A&R at some label.

Now anyone can record... listen.. retake.. etc until they are happy with their work, then upload to the internet and it is instantly available to whomever. The number of artists doing this very same thing greatly reduces ones potential of being heard.

All this said, It doesn't always need to be about a financial bottom line or the fame top 40 artists get to be worthwhile. There were/are always people who simply enjoyed the process of making and playing music. If you're looking for the personal gain gravy train, maybe your heart is set on the wrong priorities to make the music itself more valuable to others?

That is, perhaps your music quality is affected negatively by trying to get listeners simply because your goal seems to be about getting listeners. I mean if you are writing music as a creative outlet then disappointed that there is only a handful of listeners and aren't steering your choices in your music production towards growing a larger audience, maybe that is an issue that needs to be addressed? Not necessarily in changing your music in as much as changing your thinking on the value of your music as relating to the appeal to others. Why are you really making music?

I make music because I want to.

No, wait, I have to force myself to make music (or do anything productive) any more.

Uh...

I make music because I love music, and I feel like I should make use of all the stuff I bought to make music with.

It used to be a compulsion and fun. Not so much now. But I greatly enjoy the after effects of "finishing" something.

True, almost no one listens and almost no one cares. I never set out to make money or fame on it. I never expected money or fame for anything; I just worked jobs because I had to. Since being run out of the working world, I have a hard time imagining ever working again even for living money. But I have lots of time to make music now. Which I don't take advantage of.

50 views on Soundcloud? Well, Soundcloud is social media. I know people that make music their own way that is not designed to appeal to a low commonality but that get a LOT of action on Soundcloud... but you know what, they put the time in to socialize and make nice with, that stroke the other kids. That probably genuinely appreciate all that in a way I do not. This is fundamental. I get tired and I'm frankly not in the mood to get a lot of musical input as I'm dwelling in my own stink. In six years I have around 5k views on youtube. If I wanted to push it I have an inkling of what to do, but it is just not what I want to spend my time with. I would need money to make money and that's not where I'm at, so approbation and people from the outside 'caring' is not a great driver for me in itself.
