Which instrument or tool?

Just recently I met a musiscian who told me that he uses some kind of tool or instrument that contains a lot of loops, but also it's possible to change the drum sounds in a loop to your own if you like. It was also possible to "export" the loop to a corresponding midi file.
The problem is that I just can't remember what this tool was called. Any ideas?

Sounds a little like what Groove Agent can do.Andy wrote:Just recently I met a musiscian who told me that he uses some kind of tool or instrument that contains a lot of loops, but also it's possible to change the drum sounds in a loop to your own if you like. sounds a lot like Devine Machine
apparently it can substitute one set of sounds for another in the same loop rhythm
and because based on the demo the user identifies which sliced beat is kick, snare or hi-hat, it can export a midi file so one could 'appropriate' that rhythm sequence for use by a drum synth.
quite magical and costly.
After various attempts to get beatslicing working for me (as I was enthused after picking up Intakt/Komplete 2) I got out the credit card last night and ordered Beatslicer from Image Line. It can also output midi files, but I suspect, it's simply a rhythm elements on one note (unless it's a lot smareter than I think it is)

A lot of combinations could do that these days.
ReCycle or Phatmatik to slice and export MIDI files, DR-008, Battery and whatever to replace individual hits.
