INHO, Storm had some very original and great ideas, ... and some lousy characteristics as well
On the + side :
- original ideas such as the Keppler module, the scratcher.
- Great sound quality (at the time one of the best 303 sims). The other synths sounded great as well.
- The wizards : great for learning a style if you're a newbie. Again, a very original idea.
On the - side :
- Coding efficiency : As with all Arturia soft, this is a CPU hog. I don't mind that if it is caused by the quality, but I am always under the impression that it's got to do more with the software (Java based ?) than with anything other.
- Very limited : 4 synths, 3 effects, that's a bit prehistoric now, although as a VSTi, you could mulitply this.
- I just wish they would recode and sell the storm synths as individual VSTi's. They ARE good.

I guess I'm in the minority, but Storm 1.5 saved my life. I had to bang out some tracks very fast and Storm could do it!
What Storm does great:
1. It has these fabulous live tutorials that cover several different styles of music. I learned a lot of stuff.
2. It has a lot of canned beats and samples that make music creation fast. No, they won't get you on "Top of the Pops" but it helped me to create a dozen short songs in a week.
3. I like the individual instruments a lot.
4. The little round harmonizer is amazing. I hope they didn't get rid of it.
What Storm does that isn't so great.
1. Until recently, it didn't do plugins.
2. The editing is sometimes confusing.
3. I never felt any particular performance problems, and I ran everything on a laptop.
Yes, it is funky, but it has a lot of cool ideas. I have been too busy to look at 3.0, but I probably will get it soon.
Besides, just like they used to say about Jerry Lewis, Storm makes sense if you think in French!
PS: I don't use Storm for contests here because it didn't allow plugins. 3.0 does, but I haven't had a chance to test it yet.

Hi
Ver 3 of storm is what I demo'd - the demo tunes are quite nice - but they do rely on sampled loops - turn the loops off and it all sounds a bit thin.
Saying that it is a comfortable workspace - if only reason spread it gui out like this - I wouldn't be typing this out!
Although Reason is still looking good!
Flipper.

A friend of mine allow me to borrow Strom 2.0. For myself, the drum machines & bass synths were a plus. But in the end, FL Studio was (still is) better for me.
I will try Strom 3.0 soon. I think this product is worth saving. If I like the demo better than 2.0, I'll buy it.
