So I'm pretty happy with my live setup, but I'm wondering if there's an easier way or a better way around it. Here's what I'm running:

Genome > (iMini, Sunrizer) through Audiobus > Beat Maker 2

Genome runs 3 hardware synths and 2 drum machines. It also runs the iMini and Sunrizer. I also use it for layering the drum machines with samplers in BM2.

BM2 receives MIDI and Clock from Genome but does not send any. It's just for audio routing. I pan the drums left and the synths right so I have separation on my mixer that I route all my hardware to.

My questions are:

1. Is there a better way I can be doing this?
2. Is there an easy way to launch all my apps at once? Launching a whole folder at once?
3. I have to change settings in iMini (midi channel) and Sunrizer (bkg audio) every time I open them. Is there any way to make these default?

Anyone else using this kind of setup or something similar?

I think you are on the right path until some app improvements are made.

That pisses me off that I have to enable background audio, or set up midi channels manually on certain apps. etc.

I'm using an Akai EIE(redface) as the interface for all the iOS stuff and hardware, but I need a serious midi management app. I don't think there is one besides Midibridge which seems to be abandoned somewhat. It's the din midi out that I am having difficulty accessing.

Thanks! I don't currently use Midibridge. Do you see any benefit to adding it to my setup? Things work the way they are but if it will add stability i would be all for it.

I'm getting luck out of the Griffin Studio Connect but may grab one of the Akai units. Do you need to run a powered USB hub with it? Also can I do multiple outs within a DAW program like Beat Maker or others with it? The L / R separation works well for me. But I'd be open to others

There's midi flow as well.

I don't think MidiBridge is abandoned so much as finished. The developer is still active and responds to support emails about it very quickly. He's also part of the team that developed Musicio which does midi over your charging cable to a Mac and will audio over usb as soon as it gets out of Apples approval queue :)

I've been talking with the developer of MidiBridge. He's a really great and responsive guy! I've got MidiBus now to run clock across everything. I figured that'd be my best bet. I don't think I need MidiBridge with Genome. But I am going to pick it up anyway.

Glad to see you supporting him I think he's a great Dev too :)

Do you still have to setup MIDI each time if you save a preset in Audiobus?

I've noticed that some apps DO maintain MIDI / preset changes, and some don't - when running in Audiobus.

Don't ask me, I just play here.

Yes, I do. It`s a pain, but as long as I remember to do it it takes no more than a few seconds. Here`s the settings that won`t stick:

1. iMini MIDI channel (Defaults to OMNI, want it 12)
2. BeatMaker 2 audio monitor. I have to select audio monitor on the channels for iMini and Sunrizer or it won`t sound
3. Sunrizer I have to activate background audio

I`ve checked in the iOS app settings and it doesn`t have anything. Another issue I`m having is that whenever I try to sequence Epic Synth and iMini together, Epic Synth won`t play. If I deactivate the scene playing in Genome with iMini, my Epic Synth pattern will start. They are on different Midi channels of course - I have no idea what`s happening here.

I am highly interested in this thread as I would like to know any ideas for using the iPad in a live situation. I used to use the iPad live all the time, but it ended up not quite flexible enough for what I needed. I now use it sparingly for live use. Many apps are OMNI only, don't respond to program change or don't play well when another specific music app is open. I absolutely love using the iPad for music, but it never quite met my goal when playing live.

I do want to spend some time with Genome one of these days. I used it a little bit years ago, but haven't done much since. I never quite felt comfortable using the interface. But I do really prefer the pattern-based sequencing it provides.

If you're looking to start playing again Genome (and I assume the soon to come Modstep) is the place to go. I LOVE Genome. I've played one live set with it. I tie the scene changes to pads and hit them for the next section like in the Ableton environment. It's solid.

I added Midibus to my setup and it's made the clock that much better.

I still have a few issues but I'm working through them. No show stoppers though.

You can work around the OMNI only issues with MidiBridge. You can silence the channels you don't want going out. And then in Genome assign the synth a channel that's unblocked.
