Now that AIR Loom is available for demo, I wanted to report back on it.

THIS is the synth I was looking for. The GUI could be a little bigger but it's at least big enough that I can read it.

I felt like a kid in a candy store programming this thing. In fact, I can't wait to start reverse engineering the presets just so I can see how all these pieces interact with each other because this is a rather deep synth.

I do agree with the latest Soundbytes review. I do feel the synth is a bit overpriced. However, I have learned that they have pretty regular sales. So I might just wait until they run their next one to get it.

Now things get a little complicated.

Spectral is still in the running, though I think Loom is going to end up winning this one. Not 100% sure yet. In the meantime, I still want to wait for Sunrizer for Windows to come out. The developer said 2 to 3 weeks. So I'm thinking at least by tax day here in the US. If by that time I find out I'm getting a nice refund, I might end up getting all 3 synths, which would come out to $350. That would mean there would be 3 winners.

I'm sure that this whole thing will be settled by the time I do my taxes in April.

But Loom is amazing for what it does. Don't like the FX at all, but who cares. I have plenty of 3rd party FX that I can use. It's the sounds that I think are amazing, and that's with the substandard FX.

That says a lot about this synth.

Do yourself a favour and buy the whole expansion pack. The other synths will amaze you as well. I'm 100% sure you will like a lot Transfuser and Strike for drums. I also love Velvet as electronic piano. They are all quality product. The whole pack can be purchased for around $200 when in sale.
They mostly fixed all the bugs (in windows) and the developers are friendly and responsive always (I'm a beta tester). Simon also is always there and with a solution for your problem.

If their other synths sound as good, yes, that's an option too. Problem is, how long will I have to wait until their next sale especially when I know that they just ran one recently. Had I been able to demo these THEN, I probably would have gotten them already. IMO, this was a bad business move to run the sale BEFORE demos were available. Yes I agree. There is/was a little bit mess somewhere, but they are trying hard to do/fix everything. I don't know about their internal work, but I believe everything happened together at the same time, the updates, the necessity for a website update and changing their protection ..etc.

Anyway, I think there is not much remained till they are done with everything. The software on the other hand are usable perfectly in Windows 8.1 - VST (I don't know about other formats or systems).
I don't have all of them. I just have the expansion pack. I bought the pack without demoing anything. I just saw/heard the videos and tutorials about them (especially Loom at first) and I took the risk and bought them. I'm very glad that I did.

Now, Loom is deep and the morphing section is its strength IMO. The manual is not enough, so I bought a tutorial from Groove3 (Luckly it was discounted that time!). What I like about the morphing is the speed control of each direction or line. It also has different kinds of movements. This can produce very complex and evolving pads or effects. Really wonderful (I think Blue ii has also a very capable morhping, right? I am not sure).

For Hybrid3, it really wowed me as well. So nice and sweet. It also uses less cpu than the other synths. This one has basic waveforms but also has about 100 wavetables. It has a very good manual, so I won't write its specs here. Anyway, I thought as I have Massive, I won't need that, but they are different. Hybrid 3 has a sweet character. It reminded me of Albino. It has warmth but not analog warmth. The presets are from the best I ever heard. So usable, I rare find myself making my own presets because I can find always something very near to what I want. It can do many sounds and I put it the same category like Hive and Sylenth1 ..etc.

Vacuum Pro is a great analog synth. It reminded me of Olga (which is a first class synth IMO). It definitely has its own character and has a big sound as well.

Transfuser is like Geist. I like it more because it has much more patterns and loops. I don't usually use loops, but some of them are so good you can't ignore! Anyway slicing and changing the patterns would make it original enough. Transfuser is more towards electronic while Strike is more towards rock/pop.

If you like electronic pianos, then Velvet is a great addition to your library. Personally I like it a lot and day after day it is becoming the main chords I like to play.

I did eventually download Dune 2 and yes, it did work. So I've learned that you have to take "minimum" specs with a grain of salt. However, prior to that, you can't blame me for reading that a particular product will not work well on my machine if my specs aren't up to the minimum. With video games, which I have stopped playing, I learned that specs matter a lot and many games I tried out didn't work. And with games, you can't return them. So forgive me if I take a manufacturer of a product at his word that my PC won't be up to spec.

As much as I love the sound and flexibility, it keeps blowing up Cubase from trivial operations such as importing a wave or even just moving from one preset to another. I've never had this problem with a 64 bit plugin that costs as much as Loom does.

Oh well, so it looks like I'm back to Spectral and possibly Sunrizer when the Windows version comes out.

That sucks that you are having Loom problems. I've never had any issues so far. Hopefully you'll give Loom another chance, because it really is something special.

Just download the 1.0.5 update. You'll need to have an iLok account as they use it to give you a 15 day license. You'll need to enter your ID and password upon starting up your DAW in order for it to get past the Loom verification. Otherwise, it will just sit there.

Synth is truly special in sound capabilities but as luck would have it, it keeps crashing my DAW so I'm giving up on it.

Me neither, and I've used it a lot, but not updated to 1.0.5 yet as it seemed mainly aimed at ProTools users, maybe that is the problem?
