My mom gave me and my sister some cash and I went and bough a cycling 74 max 7 license. Totally worth the price. Since I have ableton live 9 suite, it's a great combo and you can now use m4l devices in max 7 if you want. It is really more accessible right now for everybody in terms of teaching you how to do shit and the new UI/workflow is great!
Stuck in Aperture Laboratories for a 2nd time!

Sounds like someone's going to get a visit from some ghosts soon. God bless us all! Everyone!SODDI wrote:I've got nuthin...
The real holiday (the winter solstice) was over two days ago, the rest is mere consumerism and overindulgence.
Seriously though, it's all perspective. If you look at it as mass consumerism, then yeah, it's depressing. I look at it as a time when you can express your fondness for someone what ever way you want. I got my wife a trip. She loves traveling. Would we have gone anyway without Christmas? Of course, but it's a little story we tell ourselves. Also, my daughter, who's not even two, LOVES Christmas. She doesn't even understand what presents are. She just likes the characters (SANTA! 'NOWMAN!" REINDEER!" LIGHTS!") and the ritual. I'm a died in th wool athesist, so no Christ in our Christmas, but yeah, someone a long time ago renamed Winter Solstice and we're stuck with it. I try not to think of it the same way I don't think of my old home as being in New Amsterdam.
Also I don't know of a better present than "nailing" a present for someone. Seeing my daughter squeel when she saw her drawing table and paints. It really is the thought that counts, but you've got to really think. I've had people get me things that they would have liked or that they just kind of guessed I'd want and that feels pretty bad. Why bother? That's the kind of mindless consumerism I hate. One of my best gifts this year was this:
http://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Bluepri ... blueprints
Not a very expensive present, but something I totally love. It brought me back to 1977 when I had the little vinyl package of Star Wars blueprints. They're probably still in my parents basement. You could have bought me a solid gold Rolex and I'd have traded it for the book in a heartbeat.

Ooo, nice one! I hope they make a module version one day... I'd have a hard time resisting that.damoog wrote:i got a dave smith PRO 2!

I'm not sure I could handle getting my wife a dog though... as her last one somehow became my responsibility... and I'm pretty sure I'd jump off the roof if I had any more poop related responsibilities passed my way at this point (We've got a 20 month old little girl

Well, let's see...
With a gift from my parents I upgraded Iris, picked up Electra2, Nemesis and Spectral. My wife got me an iPad Air and Clamcase as my old iBook's about to bite the dust, and some other goodies. Diecast Mach 6 (Speed Racer!), Star Wars Blueprint artbook, a Vinyl Toy book called We Are Plastic Too. Fun toys! Now I have to figure out how or if I'm going to integrate the iPad into my studio. I think first off I'll try using it to control Omnisphere.
