Sascha Franck wrote:Hi again,

When it comes to website building, I'm a complete newbie (even if I tried one or the other time allready).
And, I also don't want to be any professional, so what I's like is a VERY simple WYSIWYG editor.
Right now I have been using Netscape Composer (yeah, I hear you laughing allready), but the latest version actually is even worse than 4.x (which is what I have been trying ages ago).
The thing per se is just up my alley as it's more or less completely WYSIWYG. But it misses some things:
- Frames (I'd only need a two framed site, nothing else).
- Easy ways to edit links, so that they may not be underlined or open in a new window - I snagged the appropriate HTML instructions of the web, but I'd rather prefer to do that in WYSIWYG mode as well.

I have allready tried Frontpage, Dreamweaver and some other things such as HotDog (if I remember correctly) and even Word, but some of them just produce a mess when you look at the HTML code (namely Frontpage and Word), others, such as Dreamweaver are way too complex for my needs.

Is there anything more simple, totally WYSIWYG but putting out a cleaner code than Frontpage and offering a bit more features than Netscape?
Really, I only need two frames and some options to edit things. No fancy JAVA, no Flash, no site managers, no nothing - I'll leave that to the experts.

Yep! Sascha :)

You can pay tons of money for WYSIWYG editors, and not get a lot, or too much that it hides the real reason for going wysiwyg in the first place.

but even most of the free ones are full of ad’s and catches of some kind.

However... after a good hunt around – I have found the program that just might help. :)

It’s free and it’s a combination of wysiwyg and an editor.

CreepJoint wrote:Hi Spe3D,

thanks for that, although its irrelevant for us now (just got a domain name and bought the Top Shot package) is still useful info for others :)

Thanks for this service. Me and my Bro have been meaning to set up a site for ages, we were just too damn lazy. Never realised it could be so cheap, a total of about $39 or €31 for a .com domain name and hosting at Audioshot :D
Hi! CreepJoint, :)

Many thanks for getting the TopShot package, as a thank you I have upped it to the SilverShot, which offers more, and was/is a tad hidden from the front page of the site.

I hope it fits your needs, any issues or questions, don’t hesitate to ask.

Thanks Spe3d, will check that out... later on that is, because 20 minutes ago my new and shiny toys arrived... N.I. Komplete, yay!
Just take a wild guess of what I'll be doing all day long (and probably the next days as welll).
Matizha is looking good though, so thanks again!

the cpanel is where you manage the sofware side of your site like ftp access, installing chat rooms, forums, blocking stuff, checking out your stats all the administrative stuff basically.

Post

Cheers! Guys, :D

Yep! The c panel packages – are just that, a facility to control many aspects of your site, from full stats to password locking directories. Setting up the email accounts or sql databases even submitting your site to a number of search engines at the same time. Also it’s possible to very easily set up a phpbb forum or other things like it. It just makes controlling your space a whole lot more easy.

A quick update – I now have a fully automated domain name registration set up – so for those without domain names yet – and don’t want to mess with dns settings – this little addition allows you to purchase a domain name (and all the settings are done for you) then it’s just a matter of getting one of the c panel packages to use it with.

If you are cool with setting the name servers yourself – then you can still get cheaper domains from NameCheap that allows you to very easily set the required settings.

Name cheap is about $8.95 for a domain name – names that get pre-configured on purchase at the AudioShot website are $12.95 – of course if you already have a domain name then it’s just a matter of pointing them to my name servers (these are provided after purchase of a c panel package)

If I missed anyone out on the freeshot packages (I think I am up to date) please let me know asap.

Hey Spe3D what a fantastic service! It's the first time I've really considered creating my own site because of this. I'd love to create a site where I can upload multimedia projects containing video, audio, written pieces, flash animations and images for people to download or interact with. Is this possible with Audioshot?

I'm sure this will use a lot of bandwidth if people use the site. Perhaps you can advise me concerning the best option. I was thinking of getting the Powershot package as there is lots of bandwidth included in that but is 30G a month overkill? I would like to be able to stream video/audio work. I think I'll need about 1 Gig of space but a bit more might be useful.

I don't think I'll need 35 email accounts though! I wanted to host work from my friends but I'm not sure if they should use one of my domains and a FTP site to upload work. Or whether I should host it on my main domain.

It's all new to me so I'm a bit unsure about what I should get. :?

Perhaps it would be easier to quantify if I said that I would be hosting a selection of 5-10 minute video/audio multimedia work. I'm not sure how many MB that would use as I'm only just starting to get involved in the video side of things.

There are ways to compress the files to a low size without affecting quality so that they stream better. Any ideas on how to do this and what software/formats to use?

If I wanted to create multimedia work in Flash what software could I use? Is there any cheap/free software out there? Is it possible to host Flash multimedia work on Audioshot? I want to create interactive work and host it on my site.

Apologies for all the questions but this has got my interest.

Ixox and Jim many thanks for your feedback :D

Munchkin, thank you for your interest :) – I have sent you an email outlining some of the things you mention (I have covered the first post and the disk space issue in it) – but I did not see the second post at that time with regards to the file lengths – so yes if popular 30 gig’s may well be just the ticket (but as with all sites they can take time to get established so at first you wont be anywhere near the 30 Gig mark)

The servers are geared up for streaming and multimedia – not a problem there

Hosting your friends files on the c panel packages is not a problem either -- (if you are thinking of making it into a mass project though, with loads of people all needing individual sub domains and ftp accounts –- this would present a change of heart from me, and you would need to specify this so I can work something out for you)

Also follow a few of the links here and I will add to this later too.

Also I have had a go at creating a package upgrade path so you could start small, and if needed upgrade your package, I hope this to be a fair work around, please see this link.

http://audioshot.com/modules.php?name=C ... age&pid=12

I can also do custom packages to fit whatever features and amounts you need - just send me an email with the list of features and I will reply with a package quote.

Spe3d

Thanx Spe3D! I've given it some thought and mailed you regarding the right package for me to start off with. I'm very excited about this as it is something I've wanted to do for ages but was put off by the complexity.

I think your willingness to help and expand Audioshot users knowledge about creating a web site is what encourages me. 8) I'm going to check out the links and see what I can learn.
