Probably a co-incidence (esp from the 136.2 part) You're close to some harmonic centers there.. you could open your songs and see how often you picked these keysCool topic, I've always thought I'm weird cause I've got these "magic" tempos that seem to please me more than others
97 for chillies
122 for groovy minimalism
136 for progression... 136.2 to be precise
178 for dnb & chillies
96-97 = key of C# / G#
124 = key of C / G
136 = key of D / A
178 = key of G / D

I'm wierd were all my tempos have to be the same as a song i've made before. Here are all of the ones i use:
Ambient - 70, 90, 100
Slow breaks - 100, 110, 120
House/Trance/breaks - 130, 140, 145, 150
Olschool rave - 155, 160
Jungle/DnB - 176, 178, 180, and one that is 186
one time i was high and made one at 224, but it was barely music.

I'm also guilty of this.Wopelka wrote:mostly around 100 when the project is a song (maybe because this is the default setting in Sonar![]()

I use to do everything at 170 or above but then started liking more down tempo shit. Usually around 80 to 90. I sometimes program some speed metal beats at 200 BPM.

136, 138(my most used/fav tempo), 140, and 143 for anything with a "4 on the floor" type beat (typically TRANCE - Yes, Trance, I love it and it loves me)
unless of course I'm using 152 bpm (first tempo I used and stuck with it for a while
rarely do I wander past these tempos.. others dont seem comfortable to me.

120-130. Very seldom otherwise
Eventually something intelligent will appear written here. Watch this space.

70-104. I've noticed with my tunes (in 4/4) that anything at 105+ loses the push/pull on the 2 and 4. I start feeling the accents on the 1 and 3 and the sexiness disappears.

What's wrong with that?Kriminal wrote:I thought you jath cats all played at diff BPM's ? Thats what it sounds like to me anywaygriels wrote:80-90bpm. Not too slow, but slow enough that I can go double time on some parts (especially the drums). Yeehaaar horsey!
Actually, yeth, often there are polyrhythmic things going on in jath, especially latin stuff...
Cordelia.. Try upping the schwing
Here's a demo I'm working on for Mr Ray and OrganIZED Trio:
http://www.tronam.com/griels/raydiance6.mp3
Goes at 80/160bpm... Bit of 32nd groove quantise on it.. Most audible on the hats. What do you think?
Music with dinner is an insult both to the cook and the violinist.

Hehe, SF said that as well...Kriminal wrote:You might wanna try a windbreaker on that mic instead of a pop shield. Those guffs are very audible, especially at the start
