Joni is in hospital, I am hoping that this will not be another tragic loss of a great musical artist, we have had enough already this year.

If it is this will be the worst for me, Joni is the best of the best, there are only a few musical artists I cannot live without and Joni is one of them, not sure how to live in a world without Joni. This review is one of the few really good ones but even then does not fully do justice to her genius:

One of the world's best poets. Reports are that she's in "fair condition".

agreed. so much of her music is interwoven with very important (not always for good reason) moments of my life

all the best JM

Shadows and Light is an amazing testiment to her talent. Long considered a pop princess for her AM radio hits, she is now commanding a live band comprised of some of the best jazz musicians on the planet: Pat metheny, Lyle Mays, Jaco Pastorius, Mike Brecker and Don Alias.

yup !! the dream-team. that album in particular is linked to a very bad time in my life. listening to it now is a powerful, visceral experience, but it still rewards the effort

Yeah love that album, though I wish the DVD of the concert hadn't been messed up by stupid direction though.

IIRC, the DVD soundtrack and the album are a bit different. Both good, but different.

Love the spirited versions of Free Man in Paris and In Paris they Kiss on Main Street.

Especially love Metheny's little musical joke of playing "Phase Dance" when Joni sings about "...playing songs from the hit parade..."

Oh it just annoyed me how they kept cutting to stupid movie clips when all I wanted was to see the concert performance, messed a lot of it up for me.

Great concert though, I actually got to see Joni live just a couple of years after that but was too far from the stage to get a good view.

Thanks. Had Paris on the brain there.

Poor Jaco. Dude was amazing. There's actually footage of him on YouTube giving bass lessons--well before the YouTube era, of course. Surprised there was never a movie about his life. Just an amazing, tragic tale.

now, you wouldn't be acknowledging joni's condition, would you? that's classified.

it's not like this just suddenly happened yesterday.
you come and go, you come and go. amitabha neither a follower nor a leader be tagore "where roads are made i lose my way" where there is certainty, consideration is absent.

I hope she's not in a band with Jaco Pastorius :scared:

there are few DvDs of live shows, and indeed a tragic tale, another tragic tale of the depression of a very talented person.

As a young lad, I always wished to be the kind of guy that Joni might write a song about..now that I'm an old man,
I realize that might not have been the highest of aspirations..
Nevertheless, I adore you Joni, and wish you well.
