Oh, I remember January 1986... :o

I'm wondering what the Challenger explosion has to do with bass samples? :?

I don't see anyone being offended here apart from the OP ... I see humour mainly.

Recently I bought "EDM Killer Vocals" and there weren't any vocals from killers at all! :x

Well, at least they don't use an image of the wrack parts and remains of the plane crash in the French Sea Alps to sell "Maximal Impact Kicks" because that were indeed offending.

I have to agree with the OP that the cover is in very poor taste. It would be enough for me to boycott the producer. It is bad enough when companies use hypersexualized images of women to sell samples. Exploiting the deaths of astronauts, is really beyond the pale.

As for copyright, it is public domain. Because NASA is funded by the Federal government, all images, video and audio is public domain.
This space has been unintentionally left blank.

"I was wondering if you'd like to try Magic Mushrooms"
"Oooh I dont know. Sounds a bit scary"
"It's not scary. You just lose a sense of who you are and all that sh!t"

The OP here.

Despite the accusations of being "offended," I don't recall using the term "offensive" anywhere. I just expressed disbelief that to advertise a "funky" sub-bass sample pack they decided to use a photo of a disaster which (for folks in U.S.) is likely on the list of "I remember where I was when...." It had to do with it being the only time an ordinary teacher was a member of the crew and so schools everywhere watched the launch.

I'd say it's in bad taste, but more than that, it's just downright odd. Hence in my original post, "WTF?" I could see uses of the photo to make a political statement or some sort of art with a message....but for a sub-bass sample pack? Bizarre.

Although I agree, it's at least a change of pace from the usual "Hot and Horny Melodies"-type pack with a scantily clad woman gyrating with an alto sax.

Not only in the U.S., the incident also got big coverage in Germany. In 1985 I read about the space mission in the "Floh!" magazine which is a German magazine for kids and they showed an image of the (first female) teacher on board of the Challenger and told how proud she is of her participation. I couldn't believe it when I saw the video of the exploding Challenger in the TV evening news in January 1986. The next day was a nice winter day with blue sky and I always had this explosion video in my mind when I went to school... :(

The real issue here isn't whether someone used an inappropriate photo on their sample pack...

the real issue here is why aren't we shaming the OP for being a mouse-clicking "producer" who buys sample packs?

It reminded me of a "faux pas" made 2 years ago:

to promote a new feature available for people attending the Montreux festival (kindergarten, so that you could leave your children there while going to listen to shows) they used a photo probably found on google by some underpaid intern, sadly it was the photo of a really famous murder victim child (drawned, and Montreux IS near a lake, I mean COME ON).

Sometimes looking for 3s more could be a good idea...

I watched this from my office window when it happened. There were engineers in the room that had worked on the original rocket design (the design was already ~15 years old when it happened if I remember right). They weren't surprised as I think there had been a lot of safety related improvements in the tech in the interim.

I personally wouldn't use a pic of people actually being killed to promote my product but on the other hand, thinking about it, I guess it never kept me from being a Led Zeppelin fan.

Yeah, this is not offensive. But two tall towers next to eachother on anything ever post 9-11? Obviously terrorist sympathizers. :hihi:

like the turtles film poster that got changed, the film was worse than misuse of any imagery though imo, even if theyd used frames from the actual footage for the poster, thats how bad that film was!

They sent an email advertising some of their packs. The first image in the email is the cover for this one.

I thought, "That looks remarkably like a picture of the Challenger explosion."

One quick Google search later and here we are.
