I think that the "problem" with this is that something that was a horrible tragedy is used as a marketing scheme. I mean, how idiotic is it that something that was "blown up" is used to describe "sub bass"

(or, "whoa" I'm so stoned dude that I think it's killer....long live ripping off photo's for shitty sound sources...." )

It's never surprising "who" says what in these threads. It's not terribly off-base to understand how it might rub a few people the wrong way. Maybe go play GTA? Or go to HPC and bitch about how awful that boston bomber is being mistreated?

Having spent the past two decades working in the aerospace industry, I find the use of this image personally offensive. I know people who built that shuttle, and they haven't forgotten what happened. And speaking of Columbia, just the other day I held a piece of shuttle tile in my hand.

Hey guys I am the creator of this sample pack cover, and i just want to start by apologizing to anyone who is offended by this cover, it has been changed. Let me be honest by saying that it was completely unintentional i had no idea thats what it was, i have no memory of this happening as i was only 3 years old then. It was truly a simple idea in my head, not a piece of art, the pack is all about deep rumbling basslines and i thought, what "natural" sound has the most bass? The first thing that came to mind was an "explosion" then i googled "space explosions" and that picture was the coolest looking one to me that i found. Anyway guys sorry again to anyone who was offended by the image it was a complete mistake and i will for sure be more careful in the future!

Yes, I agree to some extent. While I personally wouldn't have a pic like that for my sample pack. But I think it was probably an innocuous reason that the producer used it. They may not have known or really thought about it.

So if you think it's not appropriate that's cool, but I think as an artist everything is fair game as long as it's 'legal'.

I'd be more worried about the censorship billy club that would follow. If you open up that floodgate.

There wouldn't be a need for so many laws and rules if people, at their own decision, would be more thoughtful/considerate and empathetic of other people...

Well yeah... But that's in an ideal world. I wish I could end world hunger but I can't.

That's what I thought - that it was unintentional.

OP back again:
I contacted Rawloops about the cover and the response by musikpro above is the one sent to me via email as well.

My assumption was that it was unintentional so I'm pleased that it indeed was. It just never made sense to me that they would intentionally use that picture for that purpose.

At any rate, it was an honest mistake that they've taken steps to correct. Perfectly reasonable response.

Good to hear that it wasn't intentional, but then I would have been surprised if it was.

Glad you've changed it - while it's not the worst thing in the world, it's always good to not offend if that's not what you set out to do in the first place.

Don't you know what happened in March 1, 1954.

I am not disregarding what happened on January 28, 1986 with the Challenger explosion - I actually remember it pretty well myself. But these days, everything is offensive to "somebody". I just currently go overboard on purpose with it.

I don't want to offend anyone, but that is really irrational. The Iron Cross predates Nazi Germany by over a century.

It's like a Japanese American being offended by a California state flag because Californians helped round up Japanese Americans in 1941.

That is correct but i think that many of the nazi guards had such a iron cross so it's not that irrational if a survivor is shocked seeing it unexpected.

Well, the "Iron Cross" is still existing as honorary medal, it's just rarely given out anymore (there were petitions to get it's former status back in 2008). The "Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany" (short: Bundesverdienstkreuz) is also looking similar.

Kind of a moot point now that the cover's been changed, but I'll say it anyway: nobody is offended by an actual reference to the Challenger explosion. It's not like there's some kind of censorship and nobody can ever bring up the event ever because people are afraid. If that image were used in a story about the event, there'd be no problem. The only problem was that it made no sense to use imagery from something so serious for something comparatively trivial. That's what was gratuitous. There's no wussification here, the context just made no sense.
