I could go for just a hint of colour coding. Oscillator SLIGHTLY tinted blue, filter SLIGHTLY tinted red, etc. And/or thicker borders between panels. Right now, there's no delineation at all. The dividing lines are the same weight as the lines that make up the sliders and other GUI elements.

Been playing with the beta version. I absolutely love it. Having the fx built directly into the synth really improves the workflow and provides one with a certain sense of immediacy that is desired in a well-designed software instrument. The re-written arpeggiator is awesome. I would love to see it in amber as well.
I'm a fan of the old comic book gui, but I have to admit, I'm really digging the new gui as well. All in all, I'm very impressed. Can't wait for the official release date and pricing info.

Thanks for constructive criticism re the GUI, all. Work in progress.
Official release date - when it's ready
Price - comparable to Dune, Lush-101, Serum, Spire etc. with a generous upgrade path for existing customers.

trusampler - I'm not sure I understand - can you explain in more detail?

The color combinations and graphics on the GUI look amateurish. Was that done by a professional graphics designer or is one of the developers doing it as a background task?

@ VORT3X - we're accepting applications for testers. Drop me a line on email.
sendy / softska / spaceman (and others finding the UI delineation insufficient for your needs) - is the attached any better?

Yes - but Strobe is furthest along & will be out the door before the others.

This is so much easier to look at a glance. Thanks for listening Angus.Angus_FX wrote:@ VORT3X - we're accepting applications for testers. Drop me a line on email.

Couple more feedback if you consider (or at least entertain):
- Contrast: dim my MBP screen half way down and none of the shades of grey/whatever color comes thru. None of the word buttons (e.g. sync/loop/linear) and pitch/mod wheel position are readable without me jacking up my screen contrast.
- I assume some are buttons, I honestly can't tell what is or isn't clickable (I can learn, but visual distinction is poor imo)
- Not a fan of thin and long sliders. Rather them be closer to each other and have more width to grab.
- Don't mind the 3D look of knobs, but the ones with perspective really catching my eyes unwanted.
Still pretty conflicted about these UI honestly. I'll live with them as long as the sound comes thru but is there a reason why it is such a big departure vs say Etch/Tremor (which me and seemingly many loved)? Anyway looking forward to v2

What DAW are you using softska? Predominantly dark or predominantly light? Just trying to get an idea of the rest of what's on your screen.
Main reason for the major change in UI is that this is 100% vector, all drawn programmatically at runtime. No bitmaps. Which means we have scope to do much more with scaling, animation, retina compatibility, hardware acceleration etc. & makes reskinning and fine tuning a much smoother process.
But we want to keep some resemblance to the old layout (and to hardware) so people can bring their learning along. The Fabfilter UI s, for example, while excellent, are too much of a departure for SS2.

How is the upgrade (esp. pricing) going to be handled if the release is staggered?Angus_FX wrote:Yes - but Strobe is furthest along & will be out the door before the others.
Cheers.

Progressively - each synth available individually but with price breaks if you own one already.

Logic X and Live factory skins, so mostly dark-grey and neutral grey; Logic surprisingly easy to read with screen brightness half way down, Live I always have to turn up the skin's brightness setting a bit if I keep the screen brightness low.Angus_FX wrote:What DAW are you using softska?
