Let me be honest by saying that it was completely unintentional i had no idea thats what it was, i have no memory of this happening as i was only 3 years old then. It was truly a simple idea in my head, not a piece of art, the pack is all about deep rumbling basslines and i thought, what "natural" sound has the most bass? The first thing that came to mind was an "explosion" then i googled "space explosions" and that picture was the coolest looking one to me that i found. Anyway guys sorry again to anyone who was offended by the image it was a complete mistake and i will for sure be more careful in the future!
There was no need to apologise or even change it.
I agree.

I agree as well. Very stand-up thing to do, but still...this is the problem with society today. Get some stones, people. :hihi:
There were no stones here. It was surprisingly civil - especially for KVR.

Yeah, I'd agree that this has actually been a nice back and forth.

Again, the primary issue here for me is that the use of the photograph made no sense in the context of selling that sample pack.

I've made no claim that photographs like that should never be used for any purpose. I mean, Rage Against the Machine using a politically charged photograph makes sense. There's theoretically an artistic point or political statement they're trying to make. That makes some sense.

This sample pack cover made no sense. Not surprisingly, it was a mistake. So, they changed it. If you're trying to sell a product like a samples, then it makes no sense to even potentially, unnecessarily offend any one. You want the number of potential customers to be as high as possible. Why alienate any of them?

It makes sense in that the dev wanted a smoking image to illustrate the sub bass lib, but didn't know the back story of the image they had selected.

How about Massive Attack going along with changing their name to Massive at the time of the Kuwait crisis?

How about Anthrax refusing to change their name during another ''crisis''.
This is the same method MJ used when he was working on Anthony Marinelli's Thriller.

Well it was way before the more recent incident. So no real point in changing it.
I will take the Lord's name in vain, whenever I want. Hail Satan! And his little goblins too.

Did they release any albums at the end of 2001?

A little refresher.

Not that I'm aware of. However, they didn't quit. ''Despite hardships and legal entanglements over album rights, Anthrax continued. In 2001 Rob Caggiano joined on lead guitar; two years later the band released We've Come for You All ...''.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthrax_%2 ... an_band%29

From the same source: ''Anthrax dispelled any name-change rumors derived from the press release at the November 2001 New York Steel 9/11 benefit concert, when they took the stage in boiler suits with a different word on each one (reading "We're not changing our name"). Bello has stated they did so after receiving support from members of the NYPD and NYFD, who believed that changing the name of the band would send the wrong message.''

They could almost be clairvoyant as their '98 album is called "The Threat Is Real" :o

what i think is the real story in all this is the shocking number of people who dont instantly recognize the image.

yes i understand how long ago it happened...but it was a major MAJOR deal. it is a significant event in the timeline of multiple arenas. its up there with the hindenburg and the titanic.

id say definitely more significant than at least the hindenburg...possibly the titanic, though there were a lot of financial world leaders and celebrities on the titanic.

Much better image now but don't forget to change the name to "Moruroa Subbass samples"! :P

It was a surfboard company and definitely not meant to be political or anti-semitic. Anyway, the only other person in the shop was an old woman who got visibly upset and in a strong E. European accent came up to me and start pointing to my shirt asking me "what does it mean, what does it mean". I really didn't know what she was getting at and just said "it's a surfboard company". She looked at me, basically with daggers in her eyes, and pulled up her sleeve and pointed to a tattoo. Like the concentration camp kind... I went home and tossed the shirt.

I guess for me I learned that you should be aware of the impact that having to see whatever imagery might have on the actual victims or their relatives. They're probably out there somewhere whether you personally have to look them in the eye and explain yourself or not....
I don't want to offend anyone, but that is really irrational. The Iron Cross predates Nazi Germany by over a century.

It's like a Japanese American being offended by a California state flag because Californians helped round up Japanese Americans in 1941.
Well two things here I guess... first by that logic there'd be nothing wrong with the swastika since that symbol goes back even much farther still. Though no expert for sure, from my own experience if I had to list "Nazi associates symbols/logo's" or whatever it would be 1) swastika, 2) those "SS" dagger bolts, and 3) the iron cross, in that order. But again that's coming from someone born 15-20 years after the fact.

Second though, seriously I'll have to defer to the lady I upset as to the relevance of the iron cross to nazism. She did look like an expert and clearly had a lot more first hand experience. I had obviously f'ked up her day bringing back what I presume were some horrific memories. I don't know if it was fear or anger but she was shaking.... and it just wasn't worth it to me just so that I could wear some tee-shirt (that now that I think of it was probably a gift anyway).

+1
The world is full of special little snowflakes. Self-centered. Self-important. Want others to jump because of their feelings.
The intent of the creator isnt imporant.
The actual effect it has on the world isnt important.
Just our own lil twisted selfish feelings.

Just dont buy it. Tell all your friends how 'outrageous' it is.
But no, thats not enough? It must cease existing in your reality because you dont like it?

Uh, yeah. Can we talk about that?
Im just not buying that this is an instantly recognizable universally beholden image.

I think people just jump on any reason to be righteously offended.

I'm glad they made that statement. I don't see why they should change anything.
