Thanks asb2m10!

The new version works (and fixes the OSC sync problem) on Live 9.2b4.

The only issue is that Live doesn't believe it's the same instrument as the previous "Dexed", so all of my presets are lost. I ended up putting the new build in as "dexed2.vst" and now I can use both, but if I swap a track to the new one I have to rebuild / refind the preset...

But my kicks are sounding consistent now so I'm happy!

PS: thanks MTLE for the troubleshooting.
Great work, although I haven't really noticed these problems it's nice to see such great support! I really dig this synthesizer and love to see its development continued!

I noticed another bug (have not yet installed the above version though). Pitch bend only works if I transmit on midi channel 1. I had my controller sending at channel 10 and couldn't get it to work... Tried other channels as well but only channel 1 seem to work.
Running 64 bit Reaper.

Another thing... The Fine tuning doesn't seem correctly implemented. You can test this with just a single oscillator:
1. INIT patch and play a note, eg A. F=1
2. Set Coarse so that F=0.5. We now play the note an octave down, as expected.
3. Set Fine so that F=1 again. Note is now an E instead of an A. We're a fourth low.
4. Set Fine so that F=1.49. Now we're back where we started.
I cannot believe this is the expected behavior since this make the display useless when using fine tuning...
Either the display is wrong or the fine tuning is wrong.

Third thing... I'm guessing you know this already, but anyway :)
Cutoff and resonance seem to reset every time i start the synthesizer. Since these are not in a patch they should at least be saved in the instance. I use automation now to get around this.

Thanks for a great instrument!

Wow cool stuff. But hanging notes still there.

MTLE, can you provide me with a preset from your snare sound, so I can test on OSX? My host (Renoise) can read FXP.

Sure, its originally from a bank in dx7_presets.zip posted anywhere above, must been one of the percussion banks in the "19424 DX-7 SOUNDS" directory. Anyway, here is the modified version. Its Snare Dr.2 in this .fxp. What's not in the .fxp are the other plugins like EQ's, Reverb, LimiterNo6 and all the master bus plugins I used for the example.

Uhm, could someone please tell me how to copy a single patch from one cartridge to another one? I have this gazillion of downloaded virtual cartridges, all nicely accessable in Dexed_cart.zip, but I'd like to collect my favourite patches in just a couple of cartridges. :help:

Read earlier in this thread mehum described how to set up a cart and provided a blank one.

Okay here's my entry and tribute to the DX7 era of FM synths ... a Funky one this time ... with a rather "off my head" solo about two thirds down the line.

DAW: REAPER

20 Instances of Dexed. Patches are all re-programmed from various presets as starting points to get the right "character" for the very retro sounds I wanted.

Track FX:

19 * ReaEQ
6 * Classic Compressor
15 * TAL Reverb II (but I will at some point buss up some tracks for a more consistent verb!)
1 * Twin Delay
3 * LFX-1310 (autopan)

Master FX:
VOS SlickEQ
Limiter No. 6

DR:9

Enjoy

Yeah thx, I already downloaded that INIT cart which is nice to create patches from scratch. Actually by now I learned how to make such an empty cart myself.

But what I want to do is collect my favourite patches from a number of carts in another cart. I don't know how to copy a single existing patch from one cart and paste it into an arbitrary slot of another cart.

If I got the DX7 manual right, in the DX7 it's done like this:
1. load individual patch from cart A into internal memory
2. remove cart A and plug in cart B
3. save individual patch from internal memory to a slot of your choice in cart B

I mean, it's all good, I can always simply use a patch from whatever cart it's stored in... :)

Thanks guys! :tu:

I did explain this also ;)
1. Have a syx file ready for collection. It unfortunately cannot be in the zip.
2. Load up a favorite patch.
3. Choose Store and then External file. Select your syx and then the patch to overwrite.
4. Repeat steps 2-3...

OK this is how I'd do it :
You created an empty cart EMPTY.SYX and all 32 patches are INIT, right?
On Dexed GUI click CARD and then Dexed_01.
Let's say you're in love with Say Again.
Click STORE, then click EXTERNAL FILE and point to your EMPTY.SYX on your hard-drive.
Now bottom line shows name INIT of your 1st preset from EMPTY.SYX.
If you click OK now, Say Again will be stored as a 1st preset on EMPTY.SYX.
If you don't want to store Say Again as the 1st preset, click INIT on the bottom line, then on a drop down window scroll and click were you want to put the preset.
Click OK.

Hey all you funky folk!

Just updated my track .. lots of consolidation/bussing of tracks etc ... for a more consistent sound and mix.

Now 10 Dexed instead of 20 ...

Track FX now:
9 * ReaEQ (was 19)
3 * Classic Compressor (was 6)
8 * TAL Reverb II (was15)
2 * LFX-1310 autopan (was 3)

Add JB Red Phat Pro to the master chain.

DR is now 7 (sorry!)

Twin Delay has gone completely - not needed, added nothing at all.

Worked a little more on the screaming solo, added more mid range tones and a little more attack to the patch notes so they cut in better (well I think so!)

Enjoy (more I hope!).
