Don't give me that jive, half the people on here are either "preset designers' or beta testers or are affiliated in some other way with a product. Your talking to a grown ass man.

Well, even if it was so, which it is not, are those not entitled to a personal opinion? Especially considering they surely won't have done presets, or beta testing for only one single product.

I think Spire is the best choice between the two. ANA's waveforms are all static, and the effects on Spire are perfect for this sort of sound.

That said, if you can only afford ANA then get it and make music, there's a number of banks for it I think. It can certainly get along your way.

About Serum. Own it, love it, but there aren't a lot of soundsets out there for it yet. If you're not into programming, Serum is not an easy synth to get around. So before you consider it, keep that in mind.

Also, the presets that come with Serum are not exactly targeted to EDM. At least that wasn't the impression that I got. The synth certainly has the capability but its strengths are in creating more unusual sounds, which is why I love it so much.

Just don't expect to open it up out of the box and have an EDM machine. Because it's not.

I own hive and being that they already have like 3-4 thousand presets lined up for it and it isn't even released yet; and being that it's just 2 oscillators, 2subs, 2 filters, and 2 lfo's (all cross modulated), you'd be hard pressed to come up with something someone hasn't already submitted as a preset. It wasn't what I expected but it is a hell of a lot of fun. I am constantly surprised by u-he. They are always unexpected and it takes a minute for me to wrap my head around what they are doing but I'm always satisfied and I "get it" in the end. *(insert joke here) It sounds fab, It's a ton of fun, and it may have the biggest sweet spot I've ever heard.

Whilst I'm still waiting until Urs might add some SPECIAL waveforms for some extra flavor (and more features), other people have already made thousands of presets! Hive seems to be the beta version with the biggest amount of presets!

Spire is similar in that way that it's quite straightforward and easy to program, too, in contrary to Serum...

My biggest problem with hive is that the oscillators are not (as of yet) available as a modulation source. There is probably a very good technical reason for that. It probably has to do with the kind of oscillators they are, but it is disappointing to me because I use a lot of oscillator as modulation source, and I thought it would be more virus than sylenth. As with all u-he products you are kind of at the mercy of what they want to give you and you have to go outside your comfort zone a little (at least I do). It surprised me greatly how much could be done with what they give you tho. It can go in a lot of directions...it's just that with all software these days everyone has the same sounds and the same software and is throwing together and pumping out the same cookie cutter club tracks over, and over, and over....it's fun to take an instrument like hive and do things with it it wasn't intended to do. I suspect that a lot of the u-he crowd are like that. That's why you get unusual presets submitted. You can only do a super saw so many times.

Guys like me are the last to get their hands dirty with these soft instruments though and so any of the curiosity factor, the exploration factor is missing with software these days. There isn't much left to call your own any more. That's why you choose the best instrument for what you want to do I guess. Spire can be very cinematic...it can be over the top very easily. That's not always a good thing. Ana is good for basic edm style club tracks...it may be all you need.

Hive is great if the OP was after Sylenth, again you would be really pitching it against most popular and covered synth, I would pick Hive, but as someone brilliantly put it, there's some of the things massively popular on KVR, but barely noticed outside of it, like Dune or Synthmaster for example.

I think Hive will share same future, if people who actually make a living with EDM doesn't start talking about it and showing it off or flavor of month sound designers start going at it like mad on honey, that is what determines popularity outside of this place, where actual folks who do EDM hang out.
