Chords for Cthulhu is a repository of 3500 chords for Xfer Records MIDI chord and arp module.

Arranged in progressions and loosely sorted by key, the use of Chords is designed to:
  • Inspire song ideas
  • Escape same old playing patterns
  • Provide easy harmony access for non-keyboard players
  • Allow for effortless experimentation
Simply route Cthulhu to output to your synth of choice, load up to 100 chords a time from one of the 35 presets banks, and add instant one finger harmonies to any project.

Its $7, since the OP didnt mention that (and its not visible until you actually visit the product page, which they dont link to directly. I really wish folk selling stuff would stop 'hiding' the pricetag.)

The video didn't seem to showcase very many chord progressions.

Is there a way to hear more of them?

Will you have a manual showing what they are, or will that be left up to the user to determine?

There is no index of the chords or progressions. The aim was to create a lucky dip scenario and go by ear. Cthulhu itself will tell you what chord is playing however.

**fixed direct link to page.

Thanks; there's really no way to determine what I would be buying then, I guess. I don't think I'd want to purchase the pack only to find out that I don't care for the progressions or that they don't suit my style of music/taste.

The pack is designed for experimentation and inspiration in mind, with no restrictions on rhythmic or sequential input. That is to say you are not limited to the small clusters of progressions, but are encouraged to hunt around and create your own from all the variations and voicings available.

I have been using and building on this pack for a while, and sometimes all it take is one chord to apply the right mood to a piece. Also using the arpeggiator brings a whole other level of possibilities.

I understand this idea and workflow may not appeal to everyone though.

Thanks, I appreciate you expressing your thoughts behind it.
Price is definitely a plus; the mystery of not knowing exactly what's inside may be a good thing if there are some nice surprises inside.

great - really needed someone to do this...I hope it has some interesting extended jazz style chords in it for deep house...

Do I assume for each key there is a lucky dip of chords in that key or near?

There are indeed jazz chords in there, although fair warning not a substantial amount.
Yes, the progressions are little clusters, so immediate keys will play immediately well together, and then you can branch out and see what happens.

Got it and only played with it for a couple minutes. I like some of the chords and voicings I'm hearing.
I need to determine where the progressions are located and how the branching works.
I don't know if there's a similar pattern of locations for progressions versus branching chords from preset to preset, or whether they're not constructed to be alike for usage. Think I only auditioned bit portions of maybe the first three presets. Unfortunately, I have a project that lasts till the end of May, so I have to squeeze in the music when I can.
I appreciate your putting the pack together and look forward to having some more fun with it.
Hope it catches on; might also get more users interested in Cthulhu.
