I somehow missed the news about Excalibur completely until just now. Oh well, guess I'll go play with the demo and see how badly I really want this.
Incomplete list of my gear: 1/8" audio input jack.

A rather bizarre experiment:

Glockenspiel impro with the studio recording room windows wide open, so that environmental sounds chime into the recording. Processed mainly with Excalibur FX (a preset combining two resonators, a flanger and a ring modulator, all cross-modulating with high feedback rates), some crusherX and B2.

Cool.
Simon are you using Excalibur on the vocals in the intro?

Yes, on everything really, it's just a stereo track played live on HD - Excalibur creates that endless drone too, crusher and B2 are just side effects.

Interesting, particularly the endless drone.
Have you had a go at trying to get Excalibur to sound like Valhalla Shimmer?
ie: the +12 semitones and significant feedback Eno/Lanois shimmer trick ?

Well I have Shimmer and I hate that typical transposing Shimmer sound as it's so overused - but it should be easy to repro in Excalibur, but I won't do it :)

Of course I couldn't resist trying what I claimed was easy, and me bigmouth failed of course, as Excalibur uses resonators with a fixed pitch, and does not transpose things in relation to the incoming audio. So in Shimmer you set it to +12 semis and with the feedback loop each pass gets transposed up another octave, this is not possible in XCali. Nevertheless while trying, I made these 3 presets which also sound nice. If you want to change the pitch of the resonators (tuned to C by default) use the soft knob and tune up all resonances scaled in semitones, +1 octave with the knob fully engaged. However it will sound nothing like shimmer and you have to tune it to the pitch of your song (or not).

Btw: on my new Mac Pro running Yosemite which I installed yesterday, Excalibur's GUI is constantly flickering and glitching, both on the 32" 4-k Retina display and on the 27" Thunderbolt too, something is seriously wrong here, audio is fine though.

I suspect it's a Retina related thing affecting the entire system. None of the other plugs do that though.

It's a hardware hubris warning telling you that no matter how much you spend on shiny new hardware, you will still get glitches.
