Prolly cuz they blew those out for $20 so many times...

Personally, not totally impressed with the sound examples... relative to the upgrade price, that is. Looks like the original Rapture + DimPro factory content is included... so, there you go, maybe less Omnisphere killer and more repackaging stuff from 2006... we'll see. Will wait to see what the KVRians have to say about it when it's available. Cuz, you know, there will probably be an opinion or two on it. :)
You need to limit that rez, bro.

The upgrade price is ridiculous. I own Dimension pro, Rapture and Sonar and only get $20 off? :x

Post

I think I paid about $20 each for Rapture and DimPro, so I'm not complaining.

Although, I'll probably wait until this goes on sale for $20 too.
My main tools: Kontakt, Omnisphere, Samplemodeling + Audio Modeling. Unify = godsend. Tari's libraries also rock.

I might upgrade, since i own both Rapture and DimPro. Having it all in one synth might be great. I wonder about patch compatibility with those older versions, though.
yeah that would be the main draw for me, getting both in one 'player' (with a better preset browser, presumably). I wont be upgrading at that price though for such a niceity. :)

Looks like they have finally got rid of those annoying external browser windows.

It's fully compatible. The old patches and libraries translate faithfully, as far as I can tell.

Excellent! But I suspect browsing those patches isn't any easier since they're not tagged etc. (apart from obvious improvement of removing the popup browser window).

And a Mac user would choose to buy this (after seeing how Cakewalk has handled Mac support) WHY, exactly?

well...we could have guessed (we probably did) this was coming, after all those blowout sales.

still - I would agree with others that owning multiple cakewalk licenses, particularly stuff that this update is built upon, should warrant a better discount.
here's to hoping that manifests upon release...

Good luck with that upgrade pricing with exchange rates as bad as they are against the US dollar right now. Even if I were American, I wouldn't pay that upgrade fee. Cakewalk have become noticeably more greedy lately. I'm not buying in to that.

I hear ya. From what CW support told me, they didn't support OS X 10.7 and higher for those two synths because the installer used Rosetta (the PowerPC compatibility library). Rather than do a new installer - surely not rocket science - they let both products lapse for years. Lame.

I will still buy RP, though: to recover access to all the old sounds for both synths (a lot of great stuff in there), get tons of new ones, and have the synergy of both synths together, plus some new goodies. Worth $99 for what looks like a behemoth. As for CW, even if they were to disappear right after releasing it, the instrument will last years and years.

Hopefully Bitwig will support VST3 in the near future...

Post

Nice but meh.

I would sell my cakewalk stuff If I could. All I use is the piano in Dimension Pro. And with the upgrade to Omnisphere 2 weeks away I may be out of the market for new synths entirely.

Post

paid 20€ for this, only to find they ditched mac support. shame, as it seemed quite different

not interested in the combination aspect, and the price it entails (whether good value or not), so not gonna upgrade

Metaplugin loads VST3's which you can then use as vst2:

+1 Too much.

And knowing how fond Cakewalk is of doing sales, I am in no hurry to take advantage of the upgrade offer, as in a month they could do a 30% off Cakewalk Pro sale.

Also taking into account that Cakewalk are not really helpful in sorting out bugs, I do not want to play guinea pig with my money being a beta tester :D
